Why: Colours clash, IMO you haven't tried to even look at the designs of other sites out there and at least mimic their layouts in the design sense. You have just made two radiused boxs and added a couple of filters.

1 man. gosh. get out of the boxes and do something creative. I started out kinda like you. but i had more imagination. Try something NEW. Surprise me.

Well, at least you're trying new things now, and not just flat images of squares and rectangles. Keep going at it, don't settle on this one though.

Go through these, you're sure to find some inspiration there. If you have a digital camera, you can make your own content by shooting photos of interesting things, cutting them up in Photoshop and using them around the site.
