Ok, so i am creating a new animation and i have developed the characters in 2d and am now having my 3d whizz mix up the 3d models and would like some feedback on what we have so far.

The characters are from a new series of webisodes i am creating called Keep It Tidy.

Here are the 2d characters.

Names: Stanley (Bunny), Desmond (Bear) & Alexis (Hedgehog)

And so far we have done this with Stanley.

Im quite happy with the colouring of Stanley now i think but might add a fur texture to him.

Let me know your thoughts please :)

The shadow on the 2d ones looks odd, i mean shouldn't it be darker not lighter(for the bottom of their stomachs)?

I love them - especially the Hedgehog. Make it a bit more shy and more of a punker - if it fits the over-all concept.

Other than that ... great work :thumb:

Thx brian :) well we have a few ideas in mind for the first couple of episodes and one of them involves singing along to a rock track or maybe an old rap one :d

LMAO. You got a right to be paranoid. I really like them all. What are you using for the 3d models? I'm really happy you dropped that pimp theme. :)

I think the silhouette for the hedgehog needs to be more readable.

Another update :)

This time Stanley has fur and pads on his hands and feet and his whiskers are better. This is to be the final Stanley for this part anyway. Based off the critique i get from here i may change him.

I'm not sure about the fur, as they are (deliberately) simple models - adding textures seems to detract from that simplicity. Overall, very cute though - I like :)
I think the inner ear shading on Desmond and Stanley should be darker on the 3D models (i.e. as it is in your illustrations, where there is more contrast between the characters' main, lighter, body colour).

And do hedgehogs only have feet or is he an amputee? ;)

June 7th, 2007, 05:30 AM
lol he was only going to have feet but as you can see he now has arms too :)

Yeah i think its the bump of the fur thats detracting so im going to be looking at trimming that down a bit today. That in turn should also open out the seperate parts of the ears etc.

Thanks for checking m8 :)

Thx for checking darkmotion. What do you mean the silhouette?
Whenever characters are designed for use, the silhouette should be strong in all views (profile, front, 3/4 and back) to make sure they read clearly on screen. Bascially, you want very clear and definite volumes,as well as rhythm throughout the contours of the characters.

thx again darkmotion but when you say silhouette what are you referring to? a silhouette to me is a character complete black with no details whatsoever :)

Btw the site has been started http://www.keepittidy.co.uk/site/

They're great. If I were to nitpick, I'd like to see the hedgehog's spines a little fatter. And the paw pads seem too detailed for the style of the characters. Keep it tidy. But I like these little critters. When can we see them in action?

well if you go look at the site now http://www.keepittidy.co.uk/site/ i just added another image of them into it. Im going to place everything properly on the site 2moro and get that working then i will animate them for the site before animating the first episode.

Thanks matey :)

Lol, nor me :d for jobs like this is take people on. If i get an idea that seems like it would work i usually go ahead and chuck some money into it and hope for the best. I have made the site and am animating the movies but the characters were contracted out and built from my original 2d concept :)

nice! be careful not to make the fur too dark. Else you loose the face of the cute hedgehog!

it reminds me a bit Seamour the Sheep. http://seamoursheep.com/
