View Full Version : Adding some new forums?

As time goes on I've been runing into an increasing amount of people (including myself) that want to learn and share what they've learned about Flex (and Apollo). I've also seen the request on here for a dedicated Forum and it was quickly turned down without a blink.
Why?
How hard is it to make a new form for Flex? There may not be a huge database of tutorials for Flex, but that's because it's not even mentioned. It is, after all, published in the FLASH player. I really think that there should be a Forum dedicated to Flex. If no one uses it, then delete it later... but at least give it a chance. I know that many of the users can provide assistance for other Flex users. This is my first (and others as well) place to check when I need an issue resolved... but as it stands, for PHP or Coldfusion and now Flex, I go elsewhere.
Come on Kirupa, it's just a few clicks away!
P.S. ColdFusion is another one that I would like to stress... perhaps not a dedicated Forum for it (although that would be awesome) but at least mention it in the server-side forum description.

Write and submit some tutes first to generate more interest.

I already address that issue... this website is primarily used for it's Forum. Tutes are great for beginers, but as time goes on, there are specific questions that need answering sometimes that tutes can't answer.
You want to help me? If not, maybe someone will... Flex really should be highlighted.

well, usually kirupa only makes subforums for the most used software, so i think it may be possible that if flex catches up, a subforum will be made

^Or if there is enough tutorials on the subject.

Like temp mentions, only if there are going to be enough tutorials on the topic. There are plenty of popular software and programming languages out there that don't have a forum dedicated to them here :)
For example, the AS 3 forum was added not because there were a lot of AS3 tutorials on the site, but because there will definitely be a lot more AS3 tutorials in the upcoming weeks and months!

Fair enough... but I would feel safe in saying that this website focuses strongly (mostly) on Flash... so why not include something that is a direct sister to Flash (it uses the exact same language), Flex. It's not like we're talking about something completely different. It should be a part of the "Flash" forum (Flex 2.0).
Anyways, I just wanted to try and stir the pot a bit... :cowboy:

Yes, indeed. Flex get's more interesting as the days go by, and while there are some forums that I can go to, I like to "keep it in the family" if you know what I mean. This is the best website for resources and I really believe that it would be of best interest to acknowledge Flex as a sub-forum of Flash.
Kirupa:
Can't we do a trial period for like a month and see what kind of interest there is... after that period expires and there doesn't seem to be enough interest, then I'll shut up about it.

dC - why don't you use the AS3 forum, because MXML can fit under the AS3 umbrella for now.
This site/forum does not aim to cover every new/related technology. If there are other forums more suited to Flex, you should use them. It's always good to cross-pollinate with other forums and learn more about things that you won't be able to find here.
Cheers!

It uses GD or image magick to generate an image.

I think it's under advertising or something like that. there will be a panel for the feed you assign to your account, and there will be a nifty toolbox where you grab it from.
