So I've built up the courage to get critiqued. Usually I critique others , sometimes a little harsh, so now it's your turn to return the favor. Sorry if the images are rather large.

*The customer wanted a square business card with earthy tones.

YOU SUCK!

Just kidding...

I like it... good color.

But what size is the finished product?

The font might be a bit hard to read with the trees in the background. It depends on the size of the finished product. Also take in consideration what finish the card will have ( UV, AQ, Satin AQ... etc) All this will make a factor in the final product.

I think that the border is a little thick on the front of the card? see if you can open it up a bit. Are they trying to do the Grunge look also? that is the feel i get with the fonts you chose for "Dimentions" and the info.

Over all i like the direction.

It's a 2x2 card. Basically instead of a rectangle he wants it square. I made fade the trees a little more then to make the font pop a little and I'll try it. Lastly the client wants the real thick border, so it will have to be like that =/

Thanks for the advice!

One tree would be good enough - the 3 of them throws it all off.

The font choice for all the contact information is poor and I would not recommend going with that - nothing I hate more than to have someone's business card and not be able to read the damn thing.

I do like that it's a different shape and the colors are a good choice as well...except what's with 'living' being in that nasty green and not being on the backside of the card?

I think that the Grunge works with how the trees are stylized ... although it'd be interesting to see it in a cleaner look to just compare two different ideas ... ya know?

Overall it's a start! :thumb:

Yeah, at 2x2 those are going to be hard to read I expect, and the trees are going to be miniscule. Have you printed it up to see what it looks like? I really like the concept, but the usability worries me, it's extremely important on a business card.

I know the clients what that size is, but I'm not liking it. I also think the green header doesn't look right. I'm iffy on this one.

Well I sent him the preview of it, I tidied a few things up. Let's see how he likes it. I wish had a little more time but oh well.

Thanks again for the critique. (To be fair this is my first business card)

It's going to be seriously itty-bitty at 2" x 2". Most business cards are 3.5" x 2" - so it's good that this won't stick out of anyone's wallet in an unfriendly fashion, but you're losing a full 1.5" from the edge of it.

Just curious how you sent it to them to preview, especially in cases like this a PDF file is great so that they can print it out and get an accurate idea of the size.

I sent it in PDF format. I'm new to design...started self teaching last Christmas and workin part time since February for a friend so I'm a big newbie still. Is there a better way than PDF, I mean PDF does sound the most logical.

pdf is the best format for these:D
i like the design, but dude, the font pick isn't really that good if you're printing it small:D

Pick a clean font. Though the squiggly fonts may seem like a fun idea, they look unprofessional, and erratic.

A nice crisp sans serif font would look dope.
