i feel bad for the nets. 2 yrs in a row....oh well.
I didn't see a single dribble of the NBA Finals this year.

congrats to spurs fans.

yeah, but the Nets deserve to win it next year, they played hard, but if they loose Jason Kidd, then its gonna be hard. Congrats to the Spurs though, putting together a 19-0 run in the 4th quarter is not easy. it was a pretty good game, though.:)

the nba finals haven't been the same since '98 when jordan retired and the bulls were dismantled. maybe it's just me (being the hardcore bulls fan that i was).

don't get me wrong, both teams have some very good players-- tim duncan, jason kidd, kenyan martin, david robinson (well he was good once)--but i just couldn't make myself root for either team. what's an NBA final without the flamboyant antics of a dennis rodman? or the subtle leadership of scottie pippen? or his airness himself, michael jordan?

that's just my opinion.

I was quite upset at seeing the Nets lose. After San Antonio defeated my two favorite teams, Lakers and Mavericks, I couldn't bear to root for them ;)

Well, if Jason Kidd leaves the Nets, which I am guessing he will, the Nets probably won't make it next year....or will they? There are rumors that Kidd may join SA.

he should stay with the nets. they already have Tim Duncan, who i hate, and Jason Kidd belongs in Jersey.

I have the 1998 NBA Finals on tape...it's my pride and joy :)

I pull them out from time to time and watch them...it's amazing how I, a huge Bulls fan, could forget how good MJ and the Bulls actually were.

Someday, when I'm old, I'm going to make my grandchildren watch them...just to show them what Real basketball is all about.

Ah well spurs played well you must admit it, i think Duncan was incredible, i mean a 7 footer making plays like a guard, come on!! you see some of those crazy dishes.

Still hate SA though :P

Anyway Have any of you guys watched a vintage championship, with LAkers and celtic, or boston and celtic, chicago and lakers, man those are some awesome games, seeing jordan play Magic , what a game. thats the game he did that "spectacular Move" went for a straight dunk, then in the air coming down switched to a left hand scoop layup!!:!: Those are the games to watch!!

:smirk:

thanks to stupid FOX Sports' crappy coverage of world sports, I saw no NBA this season :(

Only shown on ESPN which comes in the most expensive package...

boooo to that. Heard Duncan was 2 blocks short of a quadruple double! Good on him for that and a nice finish to Robinson's career :)

Coolidge
June 17th, 2003, 06:15 PM
Yeah, that was a nice finish for The Admiral.

The problem with the finals this years is that no team had a superstar. Yeah, Kenyon Martin, Jason Kidd, Tim Duncan are good players, but if either team came to my town, I could care less.

But if the Mavs came with Nash and Van Exel...and Dirk....well, I would fight for tickets..oh wait, I live in San Diego, we don't have a Basketball team after the Clippers left! :(

*Jason Kidd should go to the Spurs if he wants a ring.

The best team to watch this year would have to be the Mavericks. Hands down.

I also have to agree with the statement earlier about the Bulls and Lakers in the good 'ol days. Those were classics.

And if Jordan didnt retire in the 93-94 season, they probably would have won 7 straight titles.
...................the world will never know.

kirupa
June 17th, 2003, 06:28 PM
Yeah, I am with you on the Mavericks! I really liked that team, and the owner Mark Cuban is a web-guy just like all of us =) The Mavericks had some really cool players with cool names like NAJERA and NOWITZKI and VAN EXEL!

I also read today on MSN.com (probably in a link to espn or msnbc) that this year's finals had the lowest viewer ratings for an NBA finals in a long time.

Cheers!

June 17th, 2003, 06:36 PM
yeah, I read that too.
I also heard that Game One was one of the lowest watched NBA Finals game since the Nielson ratings were introduced, but don't quote me on that.

*Mark Cuban, I love that guy.
(Always popping up talking about 'HD Television'. -too funny.)

If I was him, I would have done the same thing with my 'dotcom millions'-buy a NBA team!

All I can say is "go Mavericks!" :thumb:

I've always thought david is an all-star player!

It was a good way for him to retire!

SA was too good, they had a French player in their team. How can you fight against that?

*Puts on armour and helmet*

kirupa
June 18th, 2003, 08:28 AM
I just searched google pom, and I had no idea Tony Parker was the French player. His accent...his name...it doesn't make any sense! :cyclops: Yeah, SA was a better team overall. Tim Duncan could shoot some pretty impressive shots.

Cheers!

For those that have shown an interest in basketball in this thread already, how many people actually play the sport?

I do. But I haven't played for a few months because when last season ended our team kind of broke up so I need to find a new team. :) Wonder if those Lakers are looking for some fresh players...? :P

I don't see how a guy can get the league's MVP and not be a superstar. Tim Duncan may not have the pizazz as other super star players but his game and the fact the his team win games makes him a superstar. I think his style is similiar to Bill Russel one of the greatest players of all time. Jason Kidd is great comparable to AI, maybe not in shooting ability but in caliber of player. The reason the ratings were low was because LA wasn't in it, if you get their fan base you get higher ratings. The same thing happened to the NHL playoffs because big market teams like Colorado and Detroit weren't in it.

Coolidge
June 18th, 2003, 12:50 PM
agreed.

But do you think that Tim Duncan makes the team better?

I hate to use him as an example cause it is so easy, but vintage Jordan made the Bulls a better team. I don't see Duncan doing the same.

I do agree that he is a very strong player,-needs to work on his free throws..... maybe if he wasnt so boring in the post game interviews.

Whippersnapper
June 18th, 2003, 01:00 PM
Needs to improve his free throws? So does most of the NBA including Shaq. Does he make his team better? Yes. He averaged a double double almost every game. Without Duncan the Spurs would not be in the playoffs. Scottie Pippen is one of the 50 greatest players in the NBA, and Horace Grant had a pretty productive career, the Spurs have David Robinson, not exactly in his prime and a whole bunch or role players. Tim Duncan definetly makes his team better.

Coolidge
June 18th, 2003, 01:10 PM
All I have to say is, the 2002-2003 Spurs just wouldn't have won a championship against the Bulls of the 90's or made it past the Lakers of the 80's.
That's why no one wants to give them credit....well maybe you.:P

What I would like to see is Jason Kidd go to the Spurs (like the rumors have been saying)-then that would be interesting!

Hopefully next season will be more exciting.;)

Whippersnapper
June 18th, 2003, 01:19 PM
I just said Duncan was a superstar, not that his team could beat the Bulls, it's practically impossible to judge teams of different eras as to how they would fair aganist each other, I do think Jordan is one of the best if not the best player of all time. Duncan is up there but not close to Jordan.

K-man, I'm a big Dallas fan as well... One of the reasons is their point guard - my main Canuck - Steve Nash :)

As for the Spurs winning - they deserved it, they had the toughest road to the finals and pulled through like champs. I really dont think you are going to see JKidd with the nets next year, just listen to the interview after the game - I think he's gone. If he goest to San Antonio - look out... just when you thought they couldnt get any better. Tim and Jason will average triple doubles every night... :(

I am a Raptors fan and Love Vince Carter, but he's been injury prone the last few seasons, I'm just praying he doesnt turn into Grant Hill or Penny. *crosses fingers*

Whippersnapper
June 18th, 2003, 01:27 PM
I remember when Penny was being hailed as the next Jordan and he was doing really awesome and then he went to Pheonix and nearly and basically fell off the map. I never thought Hill was that great, but he had an unassuming game.

Coolidge
June 18th, 2003, 01:27 PM
nevermind Whippersnapper. I guess I cant get my point across.
You come across as too hostile.

Sureshot, I too like Vince Carter, but he needs to:
1. Get and stay healthy.
2. Get traded.
3. Get traded.

What I want to see is the Mavs and Spurs (with Kidd) in the Western Conf Finals next season.

Thats a series.

The day Vince get's traded is the day I come to your house and punch ya in the face for sending out bad vibes :)

Why do you want him to get traded, you want him on your team ;) He's just fine where he is... Air Canada belongs in Toronto!

Whippersnapper
June 18th, 2003, 01:31 PM
I don't think I'm being hostile, I was agreeing with your comments about Vince Carter. For awhile there Penny and Hill where lighting it up. And when I say unassuming game like Duncan. If this is hostile I don't know what this world is coming to.

I respect his agressiveness and his power dunks.

I'm a Mavs fan. Always have, always will be. I don't want him in Dallas tho....although.......nah!

I admit, if he left the Raptors, that would be a boring team.
What do you as a Raptors fan think they should do?:q:

I love almost all sports....

Basketball does not make the cut for me. Too much action for it to be exciting. It all comes down to the clock to see who can sink the last bucket.

It should be a half a quarter sport.

I like sports where scoring is a big deal.

Kinda like life :)

As a Raptors fan, I think they need a coach that will light a fire under each of the players, especially Vince. He could take over the league - he proved it with his first couple seasons. Lenny is an amazing coach but he wasnt the right fit in Toronto. Not to mention the poor bugger had to deal with the Raptors breaking the NBA league record for the most man games missed in one season.

Antionio Davis, Vince Carter, Alvin Williams are elite players and I think will show that this year - you just wait and see. Here's hoping they make the right choices in the off season and get a coach who will make the players work.

I like the mavericks a lot too, and i wish they went all the way. Dirk Nowiniski kindof looks like Shaggy off Scooby Doo.:-\ I usually dont watch the NBA regular season, but i love to watch the playoffs. usually the last 5 minutes are the most exciting if the game is close. and it comes down to 1 last shot. I want a Nets-Lakers rematch next FInals, with Kobe Bryant or Jason Kidd taking the winning/loosing shot. that would be a finish.
