the design looks very old to me. the background should be changed, table borders = nasty, graphics and typography could be improved.

Ditch the paper bg, fatten it up and ditch the borders. Make the headings stand out more too.

^ ^^ agree with both of the guys who posted before me... and for the rate... on a scale from 1 to 10, it's: 4 ( almost 3 ).

feels a bit like one of those sites when you accidentally type the wrong address and it comes up with a spam site lol. sorry. But I concur with what darkmotion said, tis good advice :)

Thanks again for all for the comments.

Any suggestions on a different layout (aside from the advice already provided) that would make the site seem less "spam like" - please forgive me as I'm learning this stuff as I go along.

My intent is not to trick or deceive anyone. I know the site is a little weak on original content at this time, but I do plan on adding much more (original content as I go along.

Thanks again.

there is A LOT of content there. you need to space it out and make it not feel so overwhelming. streamline and even cut it down a bit.

use color and bold type to call out your headlines and important content

try some other colors than white, navy and cream. those are very default looking colors (i.e.: colors that came with the template you used)

maybe invest or design yourself a real logo that isn't just HTML text.

and find another photo for the header that says, "Get a credit card" instead of "take your kid to the park"

think of your audience and try not to scare them away. think of email that you get that looks like this that everyone hates. think of sites that you like and what makes them pleasant to you and apply that to your site.
