I feel like I'm finally becoming fluent in AS2... that is, I'm able to think in terms of code when conceptualizing projects.

But I get the impression that I'm going to have to learn actionscript all over again with AS3. So...if I wanted to keep using AS2, will Flash CS3 permit that?

Yes, Flash CS3 offers everything Flash 8 did plus new features for AS3 if you want to work with AS3 - but its not required that you do so.
