Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone knew of a cool way to transform an image into a seamless tile. I looked at photoshops offset filter but it just makes the seams in the middle of the picture and it's hard to cover the seams up when the tile has a lot of detail.
Example of a seamless title:

use the high pass, offset filters and the magic stamp tool...

I remember there was a thread posted here a while ago about making seamless tiles too (or maybe that was on another forum) :(

I did a search and found that DDD posted a link to this (http://www.luxology.com/whatismodo/imageSynth.aspx) earlier this year. That looks awesome but $99 is a bit much for what little I plan to do with these tiles.
Thanks Mlk, I'll mess around a bit with it.

you Might want to check MaPZone as well http://www.mapzoneeditor.com/index.php?PAGE=HOME I haven't used it enough to tell you if it can remove seams from tiles but it's a wonderful tool to create shaders (and free)

there's also the pattern maker tool in PS. I haven't used it often but there have been a few times where it's been really handy. I can't quite remember why i needed it though...
anyway, the offset method (painting up the seams) is what I use, i guess if it's REALLY complex it might be too hard but i've always found it ok.

weird, all i do is make four layers, then flip them horizontally and vertically, and just lighten the layers:lol:

hey cool idea hybrid! ^^^
also it's worth giving a shot at M.C. Escher's way of creating patterns (http://www.mcescher.com/Gallery/gallery-symmetry.htm) (-:

Thanks everyone. I'll do a bit of searching on the forum and take a look at your suggestions.

That is what I usually do but that leaves an obvious pattern in some images instead of making it look like it all flows together like the wood pattern in my example.

I've always gotten good results with Photoshop's Offest filter and the rubber stamp tool with a soft edged translucent brush. It helps to start with a large pattern and make sure it is an even number of pixels across and down. I usually have to run the offset filter several times, cleaning up obvious edges as I go. But it works well.

well, yeah, my process does have a weird pattern, so i'm used to offset too:P
