Preload images so that the rollovers don't look like they are lagging. And fix other rollovers (see when the animation moves it unselects what im rolling over. And remove that front page it confused the hell out of me.
Also when I had no idea that was the navigation until i got confused and started moving my cursor around.
Also the font along the bottom is very dull.
Nothing to seems to really fit nicely. You go from round corners to hard right angles and then clouds. The background looks sort of bad IMO.
I see where you were trying to go, but it may have not been designed/planned all the way through before it was created.
can't wait to see the next version (and like before the hire now, fire later! sounds a little weird to say).

actually, hire now fire later is amazing.
i don't see how difficult it could be to manifest the idea,
or spit out the 5 syllables...
it's a campaign one liner. maybe you should let loose of informations and systems and nav's and peanut butter and give a giggle or 5.
maybe you haven't repeated it enough yet! =D
mo-ichi-do! ganbatte kudasai!
i don't think i'll round every corner or square every circle, because i put my nazi alliances to a hault. i don't want to look like a dam flex-a-go site.
not sure if i want to preload every single thumbnail preview...
nor do i want to export another 465 clipped versions of thumbs... so for now it's my around-workaround;
long live improvisors;
i'm glad my intro confused you. you've been stimulated i'm very happy.
if this one made you cranky, god forbid you ever had the chance to view
the one prior;
i can't wait to see YOUR next version...of some version.

wow. wow. Damn.
YES! this is what im talking about!!!!. F-ing love it. Best part of your site, is that it is idiosyncratic. There's really nothing cookie-cutter about it.... and thats totally refreshing these days. So big thumbs up for stepping way outside the lines and putting a fresh, personal swing on your site. Now, about your art...
I F-ing love it too. Its the kind of work that makes me want to create stuff. Inspiring, i guess. It also makes me want to have some of your work to put in my studio.
I think you are making the right moves and heading in a great direction.

The background is farking horrible, the way things are aligned is farking horrible... the graphics are farking horrible... Eerr... what's with all those dots ? Come on, it's horrible... Ahh and yes, the navigation is farking horrible... it took me like 2 mins till i found the farking menu... and lol, it's not even clear.. i was clicking on those farking clouds but didn't even know what what to expect, what will it open ( just horrible ). If I were mentally retarded i think i would have loved it, but i HATE IT ! Jesus, you guys serious ? That's one of the worst sites i've ever seen... :wasted: it just makes me sick.... horrible...
PS: and next time please post the link to the site... because it took me like 30 more seconds till i found the god damn url to that monster in your farked up title... sorry for all the swearing but it just makes me sick... bleh...

You obviously have some talent but appear to have no care for useability, user intuition, accessibility, and worst of all seem unwilling to accept any sort of criticism.
The initial redirect page is horrible. It doesn't look good. It serve's no purpose and is annoying. I'm guessing, as many people seem to think these days, it's there for "search engine reasons". That page is more likely to harm your SERPS than improve them. Lose it.
WHY DO YOU NEED TO RESIZE MY BROWSER WINDOW YOU ARSE?!
You have a lot of messy javascript in most of your pages which would be better off in an external JS document.
The pixelated background could have been really nice, but virtually every single element on your page clashes with your background. The buttons controlling the audio are virtually unrecogniseable, and the text at the bottom is 100% illegible. This has to be changed or is just plain ridiculous.
The slide show transitions are too fast - there is not enought time to look at each piece of your work. It's possible there was some option to change this, but with almost everything on the page unreadable, I was unable to find such an option.
The slide show / constant animation becomes too much after a while. Just navigating around the page becomes quite unpleasant as the main content consistently changes every 2 seconds. There does not seem to be any coherence or anything tying the navigation and the actual content together.
The cross-shaped buttons are dominated the clouds above and the info box below. They are not obviously recognised as nav buttons.
As I am typing this, your slide show is still going, yet I have not asked it to do anything, and I do not even know what I am looking at. There is no conceivable way to turn it off. It is just a constant barrage of images, which you don't even get enough time to look at.
The "about me" section briefly explains the nav section on the left, yet it is not the default section that is shown. Therefore, you have to use the menu on the left before getting to the section that tells you how to use the menu on the left. Illogical?
The corner peices that surround each piece of work don't seem to fit and look a little blurred. Perhaps try some other simple shapes.So, assuming you can actually listen to criticism, and use it to make improvements, you could have a nice site. If however, you continue to self-profess that "hire now fire later is amazing" and refuse to actually accept anything said about your site, it will remain what it is - a mess of ideas that are poorly executed and a hinderance to the user.

it's funny this has become about getting the last word;
noob-tron...in progress; power ranger outfits included;
going to update the cloud buttons with direct text or some pointer to their lids so its not so dependent of the tooltip for access or to realize what each gallery is; done a few tests with my friends and its been a 50/50. some people can get right to it, others get dizzy looking for it;
thumb previews... is it lagging on alot of your machines?
personally, telling me about what asia/art game you like, doesn't lead to anywhere, or thing. it's called aesthetics and decision making. you pick $hit you like and you roll with it to make it apparent, for the record of course.
i use pixels, and i draw clouds, therefore... it HAS to be asian and HAS to do with games. it's like you guys see things through the eyes of a mind that's an underdeveloped cult.
i don't think there's any mertiable, constructive criticism when people start leaking "farwking terrible...blah blah blah blah" that's just someone who needs a bottle and hasn't had the ambilical chord cut off yet;
it seems like there's always packs of people who give each other invisible high fives and the whole thing turns into a circle jerk on a forum;
if you're going to crit the nav, crit the nav. i think duncan has been the most well-spoken so far because i didn't have to turn my retard-filter up to 10 to swim through all the stupid comments.
yeah, saying get a life, it's just really pointless.
and yes. i will bring a hankerchief! i just did the pattern designs for this new set;
i'll throw them on to the site soon.
and i don't think someone who talks like he won the 5th grade IM - vocabulary award should talk about speaking other languages.
yeah this goes for anyone knocking on other cultures; if you're too ignorant to look something up, to learn about it, ...
you're not in japan, you know nothing about japan nor the people. so don't crit the culture nor the language. cause you would get tool'd in a second in this country.
and i haven't let my self praising spill yet. until my noob tron forms.

i'm going to drill it into the ground until it sells at your local 7 eleven.

uh..well, I'd have to actually agree with the first part of what flasher has said here...this IS an english speaking forum and if someone DOES have issues with understanding/writing/speaking/thinking english than I suppose that IS their problem....however, the last part of flasher's comment about sailor moon and living in a fantasy world...
I live in a fantasy world filled with make-believe...and sailor moon...well I feakin hate sailor moon, but the gf loves it!
basically I'm just writing words here and hoping that they string together into meaningful sentences....
do do do...i haven't looked at the site yet...so I'm not going to comment on that, however to the person who was speaking Japanese, I'm half japanese and I'm trying to find time to learn it (as I'm planning a trip to Japan in the summer).

I understand this dude has gotten under your skin, but you dont want to go critiquing others critiques. If he loved it he loved it. I mildly liked it, but it was just lacking what I would call a complete package. But this person is too self absorbed to understand that. SO he chooses to hide behind a wall of words. Instead of asking for clarification on a persons point of view.

Well... personally I love the site. I love the style, I love that it's unorthodox too. There were maybe 5 things that I thought could use an improvement though.
The news posts in the tiny box at the bottom is very hard to read. I think if you used some sort of "odd balled" large type it'll work better, sorta the same way you display those messages on the front page.
took me a minute to figure out how to get in
the thumbnails... hard to see, I think you may be better going w/ textual links or something, or at least easier to see thumbs.
the text at the bottom is very hard to read, i'd like to see some sort of solid or semi-opaque background behind that so it's more legible. the pixelization of the background and that text make it hard to read.
navigation, didn't know one existed, would be nice to have some sort of tiny declaration of where the nav is.
oh, and I don't think that the mp3 player flows well w/ the site, it's very "flash default" type of generic as opposed to artsy generic. ok... 6 things :)
Great work on the site too :thumb2:

On my defense I'm happy I'm not the one that started this, whoever in the old thread of his said rethink the phrase "Hire now Fire Later" is the person that really started it.
And many you haven't changed any of the design elements or usability issues sense the last thread.
I'm sorry that the words had such a large impact, but thats what S&C is about. And on the plus side there were a few here that did give nice crit even through the aggressive language toward you.
Still can't wait to see the remake and trust me the mods will probably take it more seriously next time if you take each crit as you did in your later post (the one part way through this thread).
:fab:
BTW, truely do understand that language slang is hard to learn my friend had the same problem for a while. When i said weird i ment as offensive to some, like they may not take it a nice way. The idea of hire now is good but with the implied line after although probably just for humor "fire later" it emplies that the employer or client will be hard to deal with ect.

His site convinced me he's still thinking creatively, rather than leaning back and copying the next guy with his 50fps bordered site. He was trying to create an interesting experience, maybe he doesn't need to get work through his website, it may only be there to entertain his clients. I think it's quite interesting and unique, isn't that what's important? What's important is that people don't forget his website, even if it's a little confusing in some places. My main issue was the fact the dude didnt know how to take criticism. And he chose to charge on me as well, even thos I said almost what sim said just in a shorter burst. All tho I did say "get a life". But that was directed at how he took critiques. I saw screw em. Wont last long with a attitude like that IMO. I actually had to interview a person like that for our design team. Needless to say it was the quickest interview on record. In order to co-exist in a creative environment you have to have chemistry with other people's taste, personalites and design levels. Evidentially this person possesses none of what it takes to be on a team besides mild talent. Wasted Flesh if you ask me.

first of all, sorry for my bad typing... i'm totally wasted ( can hardly keep my eyes open ) but i just had to post this...
^^ true.. Anyways, i would like to point out one more thing that i didn't like about the site... It looks ugly because it's like only half full browser... I can see that the mp3 player and the copyright text reposition after i resize my browser window ( and some of the other elements too ) but the "main background" or whatever that is has a fix size... I'm on my laptop ( wide screen ) and it looks really bad... ( if that bg would stretch with the page or something then i guess it would give the whole thing a more decent look ). If any of you would have taken a look at my screen shot then you'd understand what i'm talking about... Anyways, i like Japanese style but not "game style" ( i hate 90% of such sites... IMO game developers, as they are called are DEVELOPERS and not designers... they just make things look ugly when trying to "design".. everyone should stick to his own "domain"... )... i'm just not getting the idea with that pixelated background ( for some of you it might seems cool but i feel it unpleasant... and it's really bad for the eyes too ). As mentioned by many others before me: the navigation is quite bad ( it's not innovative nor complex just hard and weird ), it took me like 2 mins to find the freaking menu... and some of the coulds overlap the thumbs that display "his art" ( that makes the whole thing even worse )... I may not have been too constructive in my first post but i'm not a fan of this style... I like clean sites with nice transition animations, clean and readable text ( something people find appealing and fun to navigate... something that is relaxing and cool at the same time... i just can't assign any of those "values" to his site, because it's everything but not relaxing... it's more of frustrating, especially because the information is poorly presented and the text is really hard to read + the pixels and colors used just drive me nuts... ).
@ Simp, yeah dude, you're right, my bad... sorry, I shouldn't have started flaming without a reason... :pir:
Consider this as my last post regarding to you or your site... If you want, then take some of the hints ( people were really constructive in some posts and you could improve your page a lot if you start acting like a grown up who came to this forum for some professional feedback and not to "show off" ).
PS: @ Seb, yeah, the site is everything but not user friendly...
Good Luck dude,

first of all, sorry for my bad typing... i'm totally wasted ( can hardly keep my eyes open ) but i just had to post this...
^^ true.. Anyways, i would like to point out one more thing that i didn't like about the site... It looks ugly because it's like only half full browser... I can see that the mp3 player and the copyright text reposition after i resize my browser window ( and some of the other elements too ) but the "main background" or whatever that is has a fix size... I'm on my laptop ( wide screen ) and i looks really bad... ( if that bg would stretch with the page or something then i guess it would give the whole thing a more decent look ). If any of you would have taken a look at my screen shot then you'd understand what i'm talking about... Don't you all see? His site is good. It worked. We're all talking about it. If his site was really terrible, this thread would have been done after the first 5 posts. This is what web design is about today, getting people to interact with it and talk about it. It's about creating something that people remember and causing an interaction/dialogue with the user. The site has accomplished that, perfectly, with this threat as a shining example. For those that are simply not onto this, think about all of the viral marketing campaigns that have probably passed you by without you giving them a single notice. This is modern design, design that creates discussion.

It would have ended after 5 posts but your buddy, the thread poster, was apparently offended by some of the comments and hence it continued this long
if he would have grown up and took those comments the right way then we would not have had a problem

this isn't a problem. this is gold.
and i will never grow up. i'm a toys r us kid.
...and then we would not have had a problem... like who say's that?
you have this banal "i need control always," complex.
this was never about the site after like 10 or something posts posts. it became about everyone trying to get some last word. and it's actually really interesting if you'd just step back and look at it.
you're all feeding something that was nil from the get go. sure, i took some of it personally, reactionary yiddy giddy, but this is actually like all data for research too.
thanks for throwing money into my house.

You guys are still new around here, this type of random jargon and flames are an everyday thing. Your post has been nothing more than a mere sacrifice to the K-Wolves.

not a huge fan of the site design, i do like your prints however. but, i agree, you need to learn how to take constructive criticism a little better....

wow, this thread is still going?
I think I posted like number 10 or something. i hadn't really looked at the site until now. my last post was pretty pointless, but i see 5 pages here so i'm not really going to go into a whole critique as i assume everyone has formed their opinions and have covered the gamut of this site and all it's goodness/badness. so i'll try to make the REST of this post one-liners.
imo
site concept:
good, not completely innovative, that concept has been around, but good.
site graphics:
good, it's distinct in that i have seen very few in that style, bad in that it's not my taste.
site design/usability:
below average, i had to rollover some cloud 10 times to get to the content, navigation i had to find, then when I found it i had to discover which cloud was which section (rollover had word come up, bad design if you have to show me the navigation imo).
site animation:
choppy, but passable.
overall:
i personally didn't like this site. But i have remembered it, and that's half the battle, if anyone of you work at a marketing or ad agency you'll know that remembering is half the battle.
(ok, so a lot of this wasn't one-liners...sue me)

hey look its bencline! great mp3 class you have; now everyone go to his blog and use it;
and tell him to make it even more accessible so that you can stream the thing into a single line rather than a stack, via passing vars from the XML file;
but seriously, it's a really well set-up mp3 class.
thanks ben!
