Hey guys,
Ive finished this interactive flash bedroom builder a while ago, and now the client thinks its time for a big upgrade.
I have a few ideas of what could be done that I didn't get to do in the first release, but im looking for more. So if anyone whats to check it out and give me feedback on what is already there, and maybe some fresh ideas or improvments, then it would be greatly appreciated.
Here is the link to the current version:
St Lukes Bedpost - Virtual Bedroom (http://www.bedroomspecialists.co.nz/vbedroom.php)
http://www.bedroomspecialists.co.nz/images/vb_link.jpg (http://www.bedroomspecialists.co.nz/vbedroom.php)
(click the big launch button, and make sure you allow the popup)
Some things to coment about (type of feedback im after):
- Technical features you would like to see added.
- Other concepts you would like to see added.
- how the functionallity or usabllity could be improved.
- bugs that should be fixed.
- How to visually improve the layout or look.
- Thing you think the current version does well.
So take a look at tell me what you think, even if its just a few words about something you like or hate about the Virtual Bedroom.

you should not allow for the object to be placed out side of the bedroom

I would try to improve the nav - it'd be a bit frustrating for a customer with those drop-downs.

Woa, that's awesome. o_o;
Though I would put in a pop-down wich shows ALL the furniture, or ALL the beds.
It would make looking for a cool bed easyer. ^^
+ a song would help. ^^
But I'm really impressed. o_o

text definitly needs to be - Alias for animation + you need to Math.round them not to be chunky as they are (text in menus, mouseovers ...)
there should be direct drag and drop items to room floor
allow items only to be put in room, not outside the walls
when item is selected show them suppliers right on or at least open suppliers drop down list right on
if I click 1 px from list item, it close drop down, it's not good I think it should only close drop down if you click on title bar of drop down (with arrow) or outside but using idea from comment below
if dropdown is open, where ever I click it just closes dropdown
when I would like to click product under it to select it it just close dropdown
not selecting product (I should be able to select product immediatly) not click once and then once again
when you draw a line, one frame shows line from mouse position to some default x,y like flickering at one frame, you should put first coordinates both be mouse x,y and then drag just one coordinate (also tooltip doesn't appear on right place, but at last place it was showed)
tooltip for arrow and line tool appear just once, then I coudn't get them again only on some strange place when moving mouse fast
if details are close, rotate buttons from details is just tween to 100 alpha and then tween back to zero, little bug
drop down first shows titles and then background you should make it first background then tween text alpha to 100, that's small one
all in all very nice, hope you will find my comments usefull, they will surely improve your application if they would be implemented
all the best

i tried to drag from left pane immediately to the right about 5 times, until I noticed the bottom one. do you really need that?

This one first. You are obviously not from a technical drawing background. Do some reading on the Axonometric view (http://ider.herts.ac.uk/school/courseware/graphics/Axonometric.html). I thought it would be the best view for this job, either that or a plan view (top view). Because It shows the most of the layout with out hiding things to much behind other things.
Now thats out of the way...
gvozden - Thanks you so much for your comments, it looks like you have really gone through my Virtual Bedroom, and I really appreciate that. Thanks dude.
There is a few issues with the type, and I will try to implement the Math.round() for my buttons and text boxes.
A big issue is not allowing furniture to be place out side the room. The client has mentioned this to me though, and I have been thinking about it. But I'm not so sure its such a great idea. I mean, imagine if Illustrator, Photoshop, or Flash didn't let you put anything outside the page. It would be really restricting and frustrating for the user. Then I would probably have to make it so you couldn't drag furniture icons through other icons. Then things would get trapped in corners, and you would then have to move virtual furniture out the way to get to other things and it would be a big mess. But what do you guys think?
That dropdown "click once to close, then again to do something else" is a bit bung, ill get on that. Thanks.
Not sure what you are talking about for the Line Tool. It just shows the length of the line you are drawing so you can measure distances. Did this not work for you?
The tool tips are actually a little "walk through", so they are "meant" to be followed in sequence to learn the basics of how to use the Virtual Bedroom. They will only popup once each. I should really make rollover tooltips though.
When the details panel is closed the rotate tool is meant to fade to 0. I made it that way because if the user closes the panel, it obviously means they want more space of dont like the clutter of the details panel to get in the way. But they still need the rotate tool, so I made it fade out when they dont need it. It dose fade in if you go near it again. Is this not the best plan you think?
Jiruharudo - It might be cool to have the "show all beds" or whatever in the dropdown, but there is no telling how many products for each category there will be. So this could make the list very, VERY long. It might be so long that it would crash the virtual bedroom, and that would not look good for me. But I could rework the menu if this is a feature you guys think it should have.
A song! hmm, maybe. I didnt really think about that. Ill check it out. What kind of sound to you think?
Well I think thats it, finally :D. Sorry for the essay, and thanks to everyone so far for your comments and suggestions. Also any other comment would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
