Hey,
Ive been updating a friends non-profit website as a favor for a couple of years now and would like to find a way to have them do some of the text updates themselves

(Considering im doing it for nothing :) )

I was wandering if any of you know of any (Free-cheap) service or pre written scripts to remotely update a static web page.

I have found one:

http://www.upoint.info/

But it wont work because it displays just the source code and the person its for does not know her arse for her elbow when it comes to HTML.

Even if I could just find a way to have her type in a blank textbox and use CSS to clean it up and format it that would be huge.

I dont know. Just please let me know if you have any clue what im looking for.

I know alot of you are going to suggest using PHP....
Its a launguage I dont know at all :(

So I guess using a program like FrontPage is out of the question then? The forums and the kirupa.com site are updated with no copy of the files stored on the hard drive. This makes it easier for me, when traveling or at school, to update the site(s) with relative ease.

Would that be something that might interest your friend? Or would that be too complicated?

Cheers!

Unfortunaitly im affraid that would be far too complicated.

I have an unused copy of MS FP 98 that can do that no problem.

(You and your frontpage K-man) Does Micrsoft pay you to endorse it? :trout: :trout:

...j/k

I tried to show her how to use dreamweaver and an FTP prog a while back and it was a catastrophe.

could use inline frames...or a server side scripting language setup

If it's just text updates there's really only 3 or 4 html tags you need to show her,
the paragragh.
link.
line break.
And then show her where to edit each time. I find most people can grasp this fairly easily, even with no previous experience. So long as you set up the code for her neatly, she should be grand.

Yepe, I think building a small php script shouldn't be hard. But there are also some around so you can edit your homepage from everywhere, it is just awesome and you don't wanna miss it ever again...
