Channels like FX, History channel and Scifi e.t.c seem to be spamming us with adverts for *up and coming shows* more and more!
There you are happily watching a film or show and suddenly the bottom ¼ of the screen gets hijacked by a slot machine that is not only fully animated it has sound FX too [Advert for Lucky]. It gets really annoying very quickly!!
I realize that with the invention of things like Tivo that let you easily skip the commercials, they have to reinvent the wheel but at what cost?
I just needed to get that out of my system.

Its funny you mentioned that....I flipped out about that Lucky advert on FX the other day. It was up for a solid minute during a movie I was watching.

All of the Discovery Channels do that... the first I saw was last year with "Monster Garage."
The news has been putting their logo over graphics in newsclips for years. I hate it when you are watching the Sports Clips, and they put a large "4" over the graphic with the score/clock/stat that is vital to the story...
they are all lower than a snake's belly in a wagon rut...

but I have learned quite a bit from TV...
I never went to a formal University (vocational only), so most of my science/history comes from watching educational television...
I'm definitely a product of TV.

TV can be very educational - it all depends on what you like to watch. Television is like the whole world at your fingertips - there is a good side and a dark side. It all depends on you to decide what you want to watch.
I was watching Rainman (for the millionth time) on TNN/Spike TV the other day, and more than 1/4th of the screen was taken up through the entire movie for the sole purpose of giving me inside details on the show. It wasn't nearly as annoying as the new Flash-style animated floating ads that appear on TV now. The logo changes into something bizarre and for a few seconds nothing but an upcoming show is displayed WHILE you are trying to concentrate on the show CURRENTLY showing.
Just a little annoyance ;)
Cheers!

down here when we have storm warnings like tornados and stuff, they put like a 6 inch map of the state at the bottom of the TV, showing endangered areas. it gets fairly annoying.:hair:

I haven't seen any bad advertisements on History channel. But they do spam me about shows every now and then. But I don't mind, I'll end up watching most of them cause they reminded me :).

Oh no... let's hope that in-program ads don't come to Europe as well...

Yeah. I have a rabbit ears only on my tv, so I only get the 4 Irish terrestrial channels. No floating adverts there, but then again, there's not very much to watch there either.
It means that when I'm watching MTV or whatever in someone elses house I get seriously annoyed, and that's just at the amount of ad breaks. I don't think I could stand something in the screen while trying to watch a movie.

We usually get 2 or 3 breaks (each time 5 to 10 minutes) during movies, depending on their lenghts. One break during Friends, one break during The Simpsons (5 minutes each), etc.
It's very annoying, but compared to the US, I think we're still lucky. For example, during Judge Judy (ugh), we get 1 break, even if we hear "Judge Judy continues after the break" 3 or 4 times.
MTV sucks in this, I totally agree.

i dont watch TV much now. But i remember as akid (like, when i was about 5-6) i used to LOVE adverts. My dad even recorded a load for me so i could watch them without these annoying 'TV programs' popping up every five minutes.
Good job i've grown out of that now!
