i figured I would start my own thread so not to hijack the other one all the way. (http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=256325)
This has only started happening since the most recent XP auto update. (which was supposedly disabled :a:)
I have a similar issue but... aside from an annoying error popping up at boot I have just found out that I can no longer burn any cds on my DVD RW from any program. What the hell did MS do in the last update.
Please help if possible.
See attached image for error message.

I also discovered that now I cant play my Battlefield 2142 either... it logs into my EA account but when I try to choose my soldier it freezes.
Anyone know the solution to this thing... the MS support is about as buggy as their code.
UPDATE***
applied a hotfix from MS and it no longer gives error on boot BUT i still cant burn anything to CD and BF2142 gives this error:
BF2142.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.

OMG!! I just started getting that on start up recently! Ive had a look around online and decided to uninstall HDrealteck or a program along those lines and its now got rid of it but also has got rid of the sound driver so im trying to sort it out as i type! i will post back to say how ive got on.

Well, I found a solution.
I searched the MS support and found this hotfix that was mentioned in another thread.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448/en-us (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448/en-us)
after installing it i have not had an error on boot up.
as for the BF2142 issues, i found out that the hanging in login is due to server outage... and the 0xc0000005 error was corrected when i ran a registry cleaner again that I had interrupted the day before.
haven't checked my cd burning issue yet will post when i find out.

Well after uninstalling the Realtek driver my sound wouldnt work! ( :sure: suprising at its a sound driver!) so i went on to their website and have installed an update of the driver and it seems to work fine now.

@hybrid: yes... at the moment I have a dead DVD-RW as far as I know. From What Ive found on forums my model from DELL is pretty much a junker that they put in my $4k XPS system (lovely... not). I have submitted a ticket to their support over 5 days ago and not gotten a response. It just seems odd that it would go out the same time I had this other issue.
Its a HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B which I have not found any update drivers for or any solutions on the forums.
WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT... PAINS IN THE A$S At least thats the uncensored Peter Parker :nerd:

well, try to locate what software are using that file then just reinstall the software to replace the wrong DLL. if you found out it is in windows try to delete that files then restart your PC and use the recovery system of XP just place your cd winxp to cdrom and boot in cd.

thats been solved... the remaining issue is the inability to use the DVD+-RW. I haven't gotten any response from DELL and its still crapped out.

reinstalled it, still broken.
havn't found any support for the drive itself. no word back from dell. guess i have to waste an hour on hold to contact a tech rep. this thing has been used less than 50 times and only for CDs and it does this... what a load of crap if anyone else has a suggestion im open. if not, who wants to go trap shooting with this sumbich lol.
for some reason i just remember a favorite scene from a movie..

ok.. if that so, some DVD RW does not acquired a software that not OEM. so use the original driver, then try to increase the cache of your DVD RW the default was 16mb try maximize it into 128mb. but before you do that try to reinstall the previous driver and if you know to clean up the all registry that use of driver much better, to rebuild new and fix registry cause am sure there it has now corrupted registry for that driver. cheers
