my shins hurt so bad in aerobics class today. time for me to do some low impact work. less jumping, more arms (to keep the heart rate up). still sucks, i was just getting into my workout mode. maybe i'll ride my bike. **** shin splints.

morse--liam saved your arse there.
i'll be doing lots of swimming in the fall when i become part of the UNL coed waterpolo team. it will be so much fun!
i started aerobics cause it gets me in shape quickly and makes me feel great. i mean, in a matter of a month i lost 5 pounds (dropped a pant size) which is a big feat for me. so what do i do? i work out more than i can handle. stupid me. so i gotta take it easier now. my b/f is going to fix the tire on my bike so we can go riding together. i'll still do aerobics but mostly low impact and muscle strengthening.

I love to ride. =0) I try and ride every day when its nice out. That is nice and low impact as well. Unless we take the off road trails. =0)
Cheers!

pinx: I dont know what you use but you could try better sneakers w/ extra arch support---It allows the arch of your feet to take more of the pressure and not your shins~~ The type of floor the aerobics room has maybe the problem too... or You just may have worked out to hard.
Try muscle conditioning classes or kickboxing if you want a really good put you in shape workout that is not as strenuos on the knees, shins and ankles!

well i got new shoes pretty recently for aerobics so the shoes are not it. i think i worked out too hard. so i'm just going to tone it down, do calf and shin stretches, and probably ice after working out.
spend more time outside, etc....

I am sure that will help, I have my certification in group aerobics, kickboxing basically anything that you can teach at a gym etc... and shins splits are the most common injury~~best thing is defintely ice!
Good luck!

I'm with ya fester - working out is great, but there definatly is something to say for Cardio Classes.
I mean you can "look" like your in great shape - but if you can't run around the block without getting terribly winded than you arent helping your body that much. That's why you seen bigger people in better shape than thin people.
Question for you rere420 - I heard it wasnt good to jog. The reason is it's the hardest thing on your body, especially your joints. Is this true? I know a good walk is as good exercise as a good jog but it wont do anything for your endurance, at least not as quickly. I personally really like the Cross Trainer Machine for Cardio - very low impact and a full body work out.

I tend to use the cardio machines at the gym too. Elliptical trainers, cross training machines, are all great. Jogging and running is a matter of preferance, it is harder on your knees when you jog rather then a brisk walk but, I quess it all depends on each persons joints and their favorite type of exercise:)

i'm not really into machines. they bore the HELL out of me. i have to get in there and shake my booty in the aerobics class. i go to jazzercise and I'm NEVER bored. it's so much fun. and they always have low impact versions of the high impact exercises.
i like muscle strengthening exercises too, like body sculpting and such, but i also like to have good endurance and doing cardio does exactly that.

I like kickboxing, muscle conditioning, my old gym had a boot camp class and these great classes called body pump...as far as jazzercise goes, no offense pinx b/c your place may be different but I have never seen anything but little old ladies in leotards, dancing around~~~not for me!!!

i really don't care how old people going to class are. i like getting a good workout, which i do, not who i'm working out with. i think my place is different because we have a good mix of ages, from my age (20) and younger to mid age to older. and i have yet to see a leotard.

well, thats good~~~I dont mind age, either but my experiance class has been a slower, not to great of a work out compared to some of the other things I have done and well, they teach you to cater to your audience, so I think that may be why????
I dont reallywant to ever teach them either so, I may be a little biased!

i don't know, it goes pretty fast and by the time we're done exercising, i'm dripping with sweat. i don't like classes where i feel like i'm in the army and there's no time to breathe. i exercise to get energy and feel good, not feel like i'm dying. many other classes i've taken have been so well...BORING!!! i do like kickboxing and might do it next semester when school starts.
