I've bought this:
Asus M2NPV-MX Micro ATX motherboard socket AM2
Geforce 7600GS 512 mb
AMD Athlon Dual Core 4200+ 2,2 ghz

On the motherboard there is two fan connectors, one is called CPU_FAN and the other one is called CHA1_FAN.
CPU_FAN fits for a 4-pin and CHA1_FAN fits for a 3-pin.
I guess its called CPU_FAN cause im supposed to connect my CPU Fan to it *doh*
But problem is:
My AMD Athlon fan cable has only 3 pins. why? And where should i connect it?
I tried connect it to CHA1_FAN and it works, but a warning comes up on boot that nothing is connected to the CPU_FAN. But this warning can be disabled in the setups, but is that OK?

Yeah sure - just because the computer says it's not connected doesn't mean it's wrong (which it's not - nor is it a bad thing that you don't have it connected on that particular connection...) If you disable that - everything should be alright.

The only problem I could possibly imagine is that if you tried to overclock or something to where you abuse the computer/processor speed the computer might not know when to click on the other fan since the CPU_FAN is disabled ... etc. etc. (but the fan that you did connect should be on at all times so who knows ... I'd say you're fine.)

I wouldn't overclock with just a fan anyway..

Use CPU_Fan. It should fit either a 3 or 4 pin connection. There should be a tab on it to indicate which prongs to use for 3 pins. The 4th pin is used by your motherboard to auto control the fans speed in relation to cpu temp if your fan has that feature. 3 pin fans will just run at the same speed all the time.

Thanks guys! The fan is working as it should..

But i discovered a new problem, a think my DDR2 memory doesnt fit for my asus motherboard. Well it should but in the manual there is a Qualified Vendors list, and my kingmax isnt on it.
ASUS are really annoying sometimes..

yes its oky! but much safely to add an extra fan to your cpu and connect it to chasis pin! so can also monitor the temp. of your cpu both motherboard and processor. for your info. AMD is caution to easily to HOT..
