what better confirmation than the Apple website itself?:D
link (http://www.apple.com/macpro/)
 i want a fully customized one and run cs3 on that baby:D

The world’s first 3.0GHz, 8-core Intel Xeon-based Mac Pro.
It doesn't really seem like any other company would be able to sell any sort of Mac Pro before Apple. :sigh:

Aren't the intel Quadcore Duos coming out sometime? I mean, 2 quad core Xeons sounds impressive, and it kinda is - but my C2d eats my mac quad @work. It stands to reason that the Q4d is going to beat the 8 core mac.
The C2d beats the quad Xeon because both cores are on the same dye, whereas the quad has 4 separate pieces of metal. Less bottlenecking.
Like imagine an 8-cylinder engine vs 2 4-cylinders. The one engine is going to produce more power.
Stacking tech is one thing, I'll really be impressed when I see 8, 10ghz regular processor speeds.

yeah... I can't wait till it gets to non workstation comps though

non-workstations wouldn't be able to utilize all 8 cores...till the next few years, that is:)

Maybe after a few REAL breakthroughs.
After we get past "50 3.0GHz Processors!! OMFG HAX!!! You MUST have one!"

imagine the realism and real-time rendering of those kinds of computers:)
i badly want one of those macs. now:)

I don't think I do anything that requires that kind of power:tired:

Cool. Now if I want to spend a whole lot of money for a computer that I could build significantly better myself for a fraction of the cost I'll know where to go! :beam:

I dont like the idea of just stacking processors, I think intels new research is the most promising, cant wait till 4/5 years (the date intel said they would release the same processor type commercially as their 1 teraflop, 62 watt one.)

Meh. What program actually utilises 8 cores anyway? 3D rendering is the only thing I can think of...

Not necessarily, what if the 8 cylinder only displaced 100cc and the two four cylinders were 4 litres combined.

Yea, im not too impressed. As other people said, its just stacking tech. Programs arent even writing to utilize that many cores, so what's the need? Only industry has use for it, and even there, IT departments are too cheap to buy current software and hardware.
So what can you do with 8 cores? It's simple. Two of them are for real use, the other 6 are to process and enforce the crazy amount of DRM slapped on everything.
As others have mentioned, I can't wait for the new teraflop chips. If you wanna read about that, look for my article awhile back on it. Imagine a 8 core with teraflop chips

“DRM slapped on everything.” What?

Just being within 10 ft. would give you cancer.
@Canadian - is it safe to compare displacement to FSB?

darn. anybody have an idea if cs3 can utilize all 8 cores? and doesn't the ps3 have 8 cores too?
aftereffects must run very smoothly on that thing:D

If you're running several of the CS3 apps, it would.

I don't know what FSB is so I'm going to say yes just so I'm right :P
