Hi there, i just signed up for uk2.net and I hate hate hate them
they are useless
Can someone recommend me their fav web host which is UK based
I need myphpadmin, so full php mysql support
at least 20gb / month transfer
2gb + of storage
not too expensive
Let me know if you've experienced they are good and have nice speeds
uk2.net have now taken over 4 days to reply to my problems and they put all of my webspace on the wrong domain. they also have to activate phpmyadmin for me....

I just wanted it to be max speed for my uk customers as 99% of my customers will be from UK
But i thought sod it.
I've gone for media temple server $200 for a year. I can stick all my domans on there with emails etc (i hope). It seems as though its a big solid company
I really want to advice anyone to stay well clear of uk2.net

I always use Fasthosts, from the UK. They've always been reliable, and easy to get in touch with if I've ever had any problems...

Jarmanje - apologies if this is coming a little too late, but depending on what kind of site you are running, having it hosted in the UK would've affected a lot more than just speed of connections.
If you plan on making any kind of dent in the search engines (and especially if you are trying to make money), you will need to have your site hosted in the UK for it to have any hope of doing well for UK searches.
http://www.wiserhosting.com has always been good to me and is UK based.

hi guys thanks a lot for your advice
I've read through them and i like this mediatemple. They can host all 4 of my sites. VERY cool.
I'm a little worried about the UK search engine comment. But what i'm doing is unique, so search engines should pick me up. My company is based in Hong Kong but wanted to sell mainly to the UK and Australia. I will have to cross my fingers because i bloody registered on media temple just before you posted that haha
thanks again for the nice replies!

For gods sake get a .co.uk domain name or you're gonna be in trouble. Google has been "experimenting" over the last year with how it deals with localised searching, and generally it's been bad news for UK websites.
I administer one site that is number 1 for some very highly competitive terms on google.com. If you do the same search on google.co.uk, it can be non existent (and that is without choosing the 'uk only' feature). This is simply because of the domain name and is a pain in the arse. And, if you think "oh well, not everyone uses google.co.uk", then youd be wrong. Anyone going to google.com in the UK is automatically shown the UK flavoured results. So in essence, every single person who searches in the UK is bypassing your results because google doesn't think they're local. This is exacerbated by not hosting your site in the Uk.
There's extensive info here: http://www.webworkshop.net/seoforum/viewtopic.php?t=12988
Bottom line is: if you're targeting the UK and expect users to be searching from the UK, then get a UK domain name (co.uk, not uk.com) and host it in the UK. Otherwise you might be shooting yourself in the foot.

chris.jones071 (http://www.kirupa.com/forum/member.php?u=40607),
My hosting service www.allsorthost.com is very good, with amazing uptime and fast server speeds, but if i said that it was the best host, wouldnt it be advertising?

I dont think it would be advertising your doing as everyone else is doing
as its your fav host (you own it so it has to be ;))

I do have a .co.uk and the .com for the main site which i havent transfered yet. perhaps i will have the .com hosted by mediatemple and put the .co.uk one on to a UK server with a load of invisible text and a redirect to the main site (or a clone of it)
You're sure it needs to be a .co.uk AND on a UK server? Those buggers...
Allsortgroup I hope you don't own uk2.net and i've offended you (i see simlar themes between the two sites there?!). My personal experience with uk2.net was only 4 days. but a horrid 4 days..!

If you do anything involving invisible text / redirects (other than 301) don't ever expect to see your site on Google again. They're not stupid.
It's not 100% critical to have it hosted here, but I would day it's a very, very, very good idea, especially if you are hoping to make money.

Yes, as duncanhall said. If you involve invisible text in your website your website will not be on google.
Avoid hidden text or hidden links.
Don't employ cloaking or sneaky redirects.

I use apache mod rewrite, so i have neat domains like /blog/stuff/page2 and /blog/group/1/rss etc.
This gets me in google alot.
Go to google or yahoo and type in 300 prepare for glory trailer and im on the 1st page.
This is all down to neat urls!
