Hey
Im not sure if this is in the right section but here goes. I am looking to create a blog which would go on my site. I have no idea which would be the best way to do this so I am open to ideas. Obviously I want it to have the same look and feel as my website and ideally also be hosted on my site. I have tried searching for tutorials but it keeps bringing things up like blogspot and im not sure how much customisation you can have with these types of site.

Any advice would be most welcome

Cheers

James

http://www.wordpress.com

You can download it and host it on your own server, rather than having them host it. It's endlessly customiseable and open to plugins, and is generally an awesome piece of software (assuming you have PHP and MySQL).

I must have created a wrong impression here. Just taken a look at that, thanks alot im going to definately look into that but im a complete newbie is there anywhere I can learn about all of this? Design is my thing not building unfortunately is there no tutorial site on how to quickly set up a blog or something.

Thanks for the info, I would greatly appreciate it if you could also point me in the direction of some sort of 'newbie guuide' to creating these things and setting them up on my own server!

Cheers

Whoops, just realised that's only the URL if you want to host your blog on worpdress.com.

Try this one:

http://www.wordpress.org/

From there you can download everything you need. You are going to need to do some configuration yourself and you must have PHP and MySQL on your server (this is going to be true of every blog if you wish to host it yourself).

I don't know of any particular guides, but wordpress really is very easy to set up. It can be done in about 5 minutes. They're documentation is probably a good place to start:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page

If you get stuck with the installtion, just post a question in the server-side forum.

If you're using the (mt) GridServer you can also use their one-click applications to install WordPress. If you're not, then just post a question in the Server-Side forum and it should get answered. :D WordPress is server-side software so questions on it should go in the Server-Side forum. ;)
