I have been going to Kirupa for a long time. I love the Flash Tutorials etc. However, I think that it would be great if Kirupa had a new section to help people with scirpting such as html, java, php etc.
I don't see why you wouldn't want it since it's just adds more sections to the site.
I know what your saying more work for the creators... However, this is a community site and the majority of tutorials can come from the people.
Also maybe a Kirupa site of the week for "scirpted web sites".
Well thats my opinion please vote.

Ehem, there is no reason for this to be in the best of kirupa section. This section is an archive of helpful information. Which I don't think this thread is.

i agree that kirupa should have more than flash. A lot of people who use this site have a wealth of knowlege that extends above and beyond flash, so I guess a few tutorials in the main website on scripting etc would be a great idea. The kirupa tutorials are excellent, and i personally would love to see some kirupa tutorials on scripting.

there is already a scripting section. You're right about the tutes though! oh and also flash+scripting tutes!

took a peek at a page one day that showed Photoshop tuts: coming soon - but haven't seen anything since....
Knowing that there an extensive range of scripters, designers, artist around here it might be true that the range of tutorials could be widened a bit, though i think kirupacom should focus more on Flash than anything else....

PhotoShop will be the next thing the site will cover. I don't know an exact date, but it will be soon! I think PhotoShop is a logical step since many people combine Flash and PhotoShop, and PhotoShop is probably more popular than Flash.
Cheers!

I'm the advocate for server-side tuts and information like that. We're working on it. I have tutorials coming and opensource that I'm working on. Its tough tho in between work, client work, family work, and sleeping.

go for it. Search the Flash MX forum for "tutorial template" and get the template that Kirupa wants you to use, and write away.

It is out of question that kirupa.com is one of the best Flash Ressources, but I really think that it would be great if we could offer more than 'just' flash tuts. I'm not into Flash that much so I would really appreciate it and I would love to help....
Jubba
June 10th, 2003, 03:50 PM
what exactly are you into?
as I said, I am trying to get PHP tutorials up and running, but time is a problem on my end.
Many of the tutorials I have in mind actually combine PHP/ASP and Flash, so I sticking with the Flash idea of things...

If I ever get to writing stuff up mine will most likely deal with Javascript and CSS.

I think we should get some photoshop tuts. Big K has only got 1 or 2 as far as I know.

Kit: What are you planning on writing up for PHP tuts? Just so I don't do the same thing... :)

i wonder how many visitors could benefit from a tutorial on basic programming stuff like setting variables, operators like ++ and %
hey %-erator , get it?
maybe for loops, arrays, and if else statements
maybe we could do a poll where you pick the highest numbered line of code you understand starting with gotoAndPlay(1); and going up through a+=b?Math.random(5):Number(c[d].charAt(e.getDuration()/f)) or some such nonsense

Well, in an attempt to "expand" the horizons, here is the new section that will be featured on the site: http://www.kirupa.com/web/index.htm There are more tutorials planned from others including myself, so hopefully, the other sections will become operational :)
Cheers!

I didn't read other post, I just went to the last page so if you already answered this, beat me for my stupidity in not checking the other pages.
Kirupa, are you going to post those tutorials on web stuff yourself, or are you going to have user-submitted tutorials? Both?
kirupa
June 19th, 2003, 08:07 AM
It's usually both. Many of the tutorials come from the moderators and I, but others are welcome to post their tutorials as well. I would highly recommend PMing any of the mods or I about a tutorial you are planning on writing....saves you time when the tutorial you are planning on writing is already covered on the site =)
All submitted tutorials are reviewed by the moderators before it gets on the site, so the better a tutorial is, the higher its chances of getting posted on the site.
Cheers!
