I uploaded all of the animations to the kirupaforum server so that, hopefully, nobody will be faced with an animation that won't load due to hosting issues :) Also, choosing the best animation becomes much easier when the animation is not cluttered with excessive amounts of text or other footers that may lag the computer down.

*Mark - using your footer from the local server gave me a security error; your footer is still loaded from your original location!

Hey supree, we can't all get chosen. Of course it's disappointing that none of the judges liked my entry :( I didn't really expect to win. There was just too many other really good ones.

Jubba: What I think is more important to note here is that for this contest not only mods voted. Any mods that participated in the contest were not allowed to vote, and only a select few mods were even on the judging panel. The others were all non-mods.

So I think the lesson we REALLY learned here is how sore some people can get when they lose, so they try to rationalize it.

What i think Supree is trying to say is that he is not complaining about how he didn't get picked he is trying to say that the people that they choose, no offense, but they weren't as good as some others and that mods did choose did you see me choosing?

Apparently, you don't know what you are saying. Let me tell you something. Mods did choose. Did you see me choosing? No!

There has been some misunderstanding. I was not talking about voting; I was talking about choosing. Sorry if it has caused you any inconvenience. Next time, just remember that people that have complained will hesitate to submit their contest stuff. Becuase they know that in order to be chosen, they have to make something that is of the mod's taste. The people that have the best chance for the next contest are the people that already got nominated this time.

As Kirupa has shown quite clearly in the judging thread on this forum, the panel was made up of moderators, normal members and an outside judge, all of whom made their own selection. Any footer that received a certain number of votes was placed into the final poll. We all had personal favourites, but in the end there were some that simply stood out for all of us.

Everyone has different tastes in what they like and what they dont like. Thats why we had a number of different people judging.

This rules were there from the very beginning - nothing changed since the contest began and right now. There were numerous entries, and having a poll with all the entries would have been a huge drain of time for everyone involved. Therefore, in an attempt to make it fair and simple, a selection process was used to pick only the best footers with the users (you...and you and you and especially you (points at that guy standing in the corner, in the spotlight, losing [his] religion) :rem: :)) getting a chance to vote.

If we wanted to be really mean, we could have simply decided to have the judges pick the best entries and decide the winner outright without having this poll. In the preliminary voting I and four other participated in, there were 4 or 5 entries that received a unanimous nomination. This poll is being done to help make it a tad bit more fair or phair as some of you say :rd:

I didn't include your footer, because it was simple, had no relevance to your username, or made any sense to me whatsoever. Supree- the footer reminded me of the random circle FLA on kirupa labs home page. It didnt have a specific theme, and i did not get why there were robots in his footer.

Oh boy. OK. I'll admit that I did choose a theme that no one here is familiar with. :sigh: In my footer are Gundams. They are futuristic robots that fight in space. They are quite popular in japanese animation and plastic model kits. Well, I guess no one here knows about them.

Each judge has their own criteria to be met. If there was just a checklist there would be no reason for judges, just go down the checklist and check stuff off. But that was not the case here, a group of non-participants were selected to pick what they found to be the best, and they compared their results and took the top 15 from there.


Have you ever watched the show "American Idol"? Where at first there are millions of people trying out, but only 3 judges choose between the masses of people to see who moves on, then after that, all of America gets to vote.

That's the situation here. All entries were judged by a panel of judges and widdled down to the top 15 according to votes from each judges selections, then those top 15 are put into this poll and voted on by the masses of kirupa forum.

Supree -- Sorry about my other post, I was a little annoyed with a bunch of stuff and I used my post to relieve a little frustration. However, the answer has been posted previously. Its all about the personal preference of the judges. If one of the judges likes MarioFan's footer then they are going to pick it.

For the record, I was talking about my own animated footer that was 76K. :)

Mini-critiques for those who requested them are given below.

Gecko: Interesting colours, especially as purple isn't used very much. Plain and simple, but the name isn't easy to read.

Supree 1: Very good light effect on the character and background. The 3D text is clean and readable.

Supree 2: Nice idea, would be good if you could interact and drag the characters floating there. They look a bit obviously cut out though and jagged.

Mariofan: Shame it's not interactive. But nicely drawn, just like the original games. Clean looping as well, can't see the join.

Well, I don't know about the other judges, but when I was going through the footers, there were a couple of things in particular that I was looking for.

Either an entry that was aesthetically pleasing, and that although static, still appealed to me on a visual level, or one that showed particularly good use of scripting and code.

In addition to that, it was really anything that caught my eye for being imaginative and different.

My own personal selection was a variety of static and interactive footers. I felt that a lot of effort had been put into all of them, but there were some that really did stand out for me.

But in the end, it's not just my choice that gets through, it's the combination of all five judges. There was one footer in particular that was head and shoulders above everything else in my opinion, and I was very disappointed to see that it had not made the final list.

I like cubed's. :block: When you play around with it, it looks like its 3D, :stunned: cause the faster you move your mouse over it the closer the lines shoot and the slower you move the farther they shoot. I thought it was cool so I voted for him. I also like clownstaples C:-) but it just seemd to small to be able to play it right. Maybe he can make a bigger one? I d k. :q: Just my take on it.

and as for everyone bs'ing about why they didn't get voted for and why its unfair, calm down!! All those people up there deserve to be up there. it was hard trying to pick which one i liked. i think the mods and who ever the judges were did an excellent job on chooseing. (except for mine not being up there) LOL j/k :crazy:

i dont think that will happen. Most of the people that entered, they are using the footers on the forums. Its all up to the author of the footer.:)

this is really cool of you guys (moderators, kirupa and everyone involved) of putting this together. I couldn't participate in this one for lack of time but really hope of having a chance to participate in any future contest. One thing I would've suggested for this particular contest, is having two different categories. One for the best technical/authoring concept and another one for the best graphic design. I just find it extremely difficult to choose between one that has a lot of merit because of its programing and another one that just looks beautiful. Maybe that is something to consider for any future contest. Any ways the contest what's great and people came up with some really interesting stuff
