This probably isn't the best place to ask this but what the hell. I started the game in Automatic and now I'm trying to switch to manual but I'm having problems. All I know is that you have to downshift before turns? Not really sure whats going on with that exactly, but my friend said the type of car you're using (tuner, exotic, muscle) all turn differently in manual. Can anyone explain? Its really hard :(

yeah really depends on the car. I've played with all 3 so have a little experience in manual with all. I do use a playstation controller for my pc though :P

its sometimes really best to decelerate and drop gears then make the turn, then power out of the corner, some corners are useful with the power drift and a good way to do that is hit back hard on break; drop some gears and tap the opposite direction you want to go then rip it to the direction you want to go, then just power on and direct the car to straight up (meaning you would have to turn left if your tail is out to the left) also smart use of nitrous during/or near the end of the turn can really straighten up the car quick.

that works well for both tuner and exotic (though you need to slow down more for the exotic because its turning/handeling is not as good as tuner), for the muscle really you just need to be able to control your drift, using that nitrous method i mentioned above helps.

finished the game 3 times, each this different style cars.

final car for each was:
tuner: lancer (maxed)
exotic: porsche turbo (maxed) oh and same time mercedez? (maxed)
muscle: corvette (maxed)

best car ive used overall was the corvette, insanely fast, pretty good on the corners for a muscle (it's drifts are excellent cause its got enough power to power out of the drift nicely)
and most fun to use. :)

Yeah, I pretty much knew all that, I play on 360, the only problem now is mastering it. I finished the game with a Murcielago on Automatic.. time to go back and do it in manual with tuners and muscles.

In real life, I usually just go into neutral and coast, I don't bother to down shift per-say.

But then again I'm not racing at 250 mph.

used to automatic, but when i shift in turns, i almost always combine it with using the handbrakes just for the drift:D

Alright so I restarted the campaign with a tuner and in manual, so much easier to learn. I'm good at it now :)

I never use the handbrake, if I can't handle the turn I just downshift again somewhere in the middle of the turn and the car just sails through. Its beautiful.

There's different ways to drive in manual. There's also tons and tons of physics dealing with weight transfer, momentum, gear ratios, braking power and other stuff. (Note: I've played Most Wanted but not Carbon.) There are a couple of options when coming into a turn; you can downshift, the effect is similar to downshifting when going down a long, steep hill or mountain, you use the larger gear ratios and the engine's power to break the car, I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but it's true. You can also, use the breaks and slow down enough to execute a clean precise turn around the axis; if you downshift the turn will more likely be a lot wider but your average speed will be faster. The third option, which is the worst, is to handbrake and drift around the turn. This will waste all of your momentum going to the side, which will leave you going 10 or 20 MPH at the most. I normally do a light braking or a downshift when going around the turn, or I just overshoot, slide on the wall, and pump a bit of NOS in to get her up to speed again. ;)

Aye, I just downshift now, and I try to restrict NOS usage for if im about to hit something or the beginning and end of races.

Does NOS regenerate in Carbon like it does in Most Wanted? :q:

NOS regenerates in every NFS.

Excepted for NFS: Underground, the first one that even had NOS I think. :P

NOS regenerates in every NFS. THAT HAS NOS. :)

NOS doesn't regenerate in the first Need for Speed: Underground. It does in the second though. In the rest of the NFS games that have NOS it does regenerate in different ways.

I remember a racing game in which nos regenerated depending on how awsome your turns were and how much you drifted, but I'm not sure if it was an NFS.

In NFS: Underground your NOS regenerates whenever you do awesome drifts, burnouts, powerslides, "near missing" traffic and other things.

I remember a racing game in which nos regenerated depending on how awsome your turns were and how much you drifted, but I'm not sure if it was an NFS.Im pretty sure that is 'burnout' series and i believe NFS Carbon's boost builds with speed, not sure if traffic or turns do increase it though.

Heheh... I always just shift gears so the engine always *sounds* right. Like, close to the redline.

Oh, and I just thought I'd point out that while NFS simulates physics, gear-changes and suchlike, it is NOWHERE NEAR realistic :P If you want no-nonsense real-world physics, have a go at 'Live for Speed'.

burnout recharges when you waste another opponent's car. Esherido's right, NFSU:2 recharges for drifts and stuff. love that game:D

Wow, I tried Live for Speed. That game is incredibly hard :\
