So can we use PhotoShop or not ? And what do you guys (and girls :) ) consider famous movie scenes ? What might be famous to me, might not be famous to you ...

Black_Lightning
June 5th, 2003, 04:24 PM
the editing yes.... difficult.... where do you draw the line with the small stuff. Some ppl wanted to add a glow to lightsaber. and adding out fishing wires. all ok by me. but how do you know ppl didn't edit more. Afterall there are ppl that are really good with photoshop.

my scene wouldn't look as good without editing but i guess it will have to do :)

Voetsjoeba
June 5th, 2003, 04:29 PM
I suggest: no editing. Who cares about fishwires or anything, just focus on the animation.

s-fx
June 5th, 2003, 05:16 PM
Can I use my webcamera or do I have to use my digital? I think it's easier to use the webcamera....

asphaltcowboy
June 5th, 2003, 06:20 PM
I'm quite up for 'no editing'. perhaps editing stuff out (like fishwires for etc) but not editing-in. I think it'd be far more funny/entertaining to see what people can come up with using household items and stuff.

could make it hilarious in fact :)

I think lightsabers and bullets and stuff like that are pushing it somewhat. I'm quite against the use of photoshop for this battle (obviously I'll be using it for resizing and cropping the frames, but that's it. no other editing).

is that a general concensus?

remember though: people are going to have to download it - it's no good creating a masterpiece of modern-day cinema if they have to wait about 2 decades to view it... when it will be ye olde-day cinema

Great, thanks a lot, I'm syked. :)

asphaltcowboy
June 5th, 2003, 07:01 PM
me too!

though, I should start rifling through my collection of films to find good/suitable scenes - what is everyone else considering?

Maxtr0sity
June 5th, 2003, 07:15 PM
MATRIX!...I got my ideas set...here they are, no on steal them now...:)

1. The scene in the first movie where Agent Smith copy was firing at Neo and he did the knee bending dodge of bullets. But now I'm not so sure.

OR

2. The scene in the second movie where he gets crowded by all those Agent Smiths, he grabs that pole and spins around it kicking all the copies. It's going to be amazing, that is, if I can get it straight. :)

asphaltcowboy
June 5th, 2003, 07:26 PM
w00t! yeah, i considered the first one ;)

will be v.impressive if you can pull either of them off! :beam:

Maxtr0sity
June 5th, 2003, 07:51 PM
O definitely, but I don't have too many lego dudes, I might need to get some more to create the effect. First, I thought of that scene when he blows all of them away, but then I'd need a mini explosion to capture. Too difficult.

ugh had the same idea.... but i wouldn't be working with lego's. hmmm maybe i better find somthing else now:-\

Kitiara
June 6th, 2003, 05:24 AM
OK, to clarify. No adding extra effects with Photoshop. Speech bubbles will be OK, but lightsabres etc are not. It's meant to be what you can create with items you can locate, not how good your drawing is.

asphaltcowboy
June 6th, 2003, 05:39 AM
watched Mission:Impossible 2 again last night... god, I love the bit where he jumps out the building.. oh, and one particular bit on the motorcycles. so f*cking cool. i'm considering the building jump... but got some more films to watch first lol!

I'm furiously gathering up lego dudes right now, it's hard, not a lot of people still have legos. I wonder if they just sell dudes in packages.

asphaltcowboy
June 6th, 2003, 03:55 PM
mum said my old lego boxes are lying around somewhere... just a case of finding them! /me starts digging around the loft and ends up putting his foot through the ceiling.

I have no idea where it's all gone.. she claims she didnt sell it! :beam:

Kitiara
June 6th, 2003, 05:37 PM
I have five crates, so some is going spare. :P

asphaltcowboy
June 6th, 2003, 05:38 PM
lol :P

btw, did we decide about editing stuff 'out'? like wires? or was it a given that there should be zero photoshop editing?

Kitiara
June 6th, 2003, 05:52 PM
Speech bubbles are allowed, and I guess if you have some really blatant wires that need eliminating you can do that.

But no special effects with PS. What you see has to be what was teken with the camera.

Kitiara
June 6th, 2003, 06:07 PM
Thanks, my film guru. :)

I thought about doing something by John Woo (I remembered this time!) but stop motion doves... Absolute bloody 'mare... :sure:

As for film sets... If I go for the Italian Job then I'm gonna need a model of Turin... :P

the textboxes don't really need to be put in with photoshop, you can add them in the normal pic if you improvise a bit ;)..

woah, I've been away a few days and already all these posts! This battle is going to be EPIC! Maybe we should put a rule in about loading screens? I think people are going to need them......

Voetsjoeba
June 9th, 2003, 03:42 AM
I'v e got another big question: How long should the animation be ?

asphaltcowboy
June 9th, 2003, 03:47 AM
OrangeOne - I already said that preloaders (prefreably with progress bar or numbers or something) are essential ;)

Voetsjoeba: lord knows.. I dont know what a reasonable time length is...

Kitiara
June 9th, 2003, 03:54 AM
Yes, you'll need a preloader in there. I don't think I mentioned it specifically in the rules, but movies of this size will certainly need them. :)

asphaltcowboy
June 9th, 2003, 04:00 AM
you didnt mention them, but being supah-l33t, I did ;)

5 minutes?!

I was thinking like 30 secs to a min.

Maxtr0sity
June 9th, 2003, 04:44 PM
lol, 5 minutes tops! Mine is probably around 1 min tops.

Clown Staples
June 9th, 2003, 08:34 PM
5 minutes? 30 seconds?

frame rate?

10 fps * 5 minutes = 3000 frames..... unless some of them are held for longer, like a slide show

i dont know what to do... should i shoot for 1 min?
i picked a movie but not a scene yet

edit: WHOA! this is my 100th post.... I'm a senior member!

Maxtr0sity
June 9th, 2003, 10:43 PM
lol...custom title?...i guess....1 minute ought to be enough for a movie...and everyone should star their own thread so everything doesn't preload at the same time

Kitiara
June 10th, 2003, 05:02 AM
I'm going to say that a good length would be one minute. But if yours is over or under that's fine, as long as it's not way differenet, like 10 minutes or 10 seconds. :)

asphaltcowboy
June 10th, 2003, 05:36 AM
lol :)

by the way, my involvement in this battle *might* be getting hazy... my friend is going to ecuador on 30th June... and may or may not take her digital camera with her.. she sounded like she didnt want to risk it (she'll be in the rainforest after all) so who knows

;)

Voetsjoeba
June 10th, 2003, 06:49 AM
I'm in the exact same situation, it's my sister's cam I'm thinking of using, and she might be going to Guatemala this summer, and of course take her cam with here. But the people in Guatemala (Argh, hard word :P) don't respond anymore, so I guess it'll be solved ;) And a friend of mine also has digital cam so I guess it won't be a problem

Just wanted to mention :P

Maxtr0sity

If you're looking for inspiration with stop frame work, check out Tool videos! :beam:

Almost all of the videos they have made are based upon the stop frame or is it stop motion technique. Crap. I'm confused now. I think they are the same...

Check them out. Awesome stuff :beam:

Ah sorry...

http://www.toolband.com/source/index.html
That is their official website but after clicking the link you have to click "Music Videos" in red at the top.

http://toolshed.down.net/0000.html
Videos can also be seen on that site but you have to click "Videos" from the menu... well it's "vide" but everyone can work it out I'm sure. :)

Let me know if there are any problems.
