smooth movie clip transition

i just want to know how they do it, when you click a button, the current movie clip will play a "closing" first, then followed by an "opening" of the next movieclip.

this could have something to do with actionscripts, right?

the most common is when you press a button, the current movieclip will suddenly go out, and that's boring.
