A Pebble (In 3Ds)

I played for a while and this is what i made... It looked like a pebble so i called it a pebble. The shadow does need some work... Any help with how to get the shadow looking good will be greatly recieved.

I Now Present In My Beginners Way... The Pebble

You could use a shadow map and up the size to about 1024 - that gives better definition on the shadow, but doesn't give that crispy feel. Better still download brazil from www.splutterfish.com and use the Global Illumination options. Sky light will give you a nice, indirect shadow.

Me... 'Cos im the arciteched(sp?) so the Pebble and the chinease person aren't really real. They are just the earlier versions of the Pebble. Once you get to me you have a choice... go back to the pebble or save the chinease person, but i already know what you will choose...

pool of water: Use a plane and bump the length and with segments up to something reasonably detailed. You can make a rougher surface by using a displacement modifier and fractal noise for the map, then make the material something blue with a fresnel falloff map in the reflection slot. For a smooth surface with ripples you could apply a ripple space warp... not very convincing though because it doesn't loose it's strength as the ripples spread out.
