View Full Version : TV sucks (most of the time)

ok, those that know me will know that i don't watch much TV. Last night, i actually sat down and watched a show called "the vice". It was terrible!
The show is a 'cop' show. This week they were trying to uncover a bloke who was pimping young boys. Uncover cop goes in, gains his trust, yadda yadda yadda. The whole script seemed contrived to be as controversial and shocking as possible. Heres a brief summary of all the 'shocking' bits:
show starts with cop having sex
cop goes undercover and pretends to be a gay bloke interested in young boys
a 13 year boy gets interested in cop
a 15 year old boy is busted having sex with a woman in her 30's
cop returns from uncover to find his lover throwing a party and with some other bloke
I mean come on! has TV really come to this? This why i don't watch TV much.

And this is why I watched the England game then switched off. :) The only reason I have a subscription to Sky is for the sports channels and Sky One... :sure:

TV is about to turn super smooth in the States.
One of our already good Networks (TNN) is turning into the only male TV station. They are calling it spike TV.
Right now you can go to theier website and vote for all kinds of good shows to be on there. They are going to play ren and stimpy, Airwolf, Arnold marathons.... I am so pumped.

yeah, it sucks that we have to put up with all these other crap channels and TV shows. I dont mind ITV so much, at least their crap is paid for by advertising, but the bbc is paid for by us! the whole TV licence thing sucks, we should be charged according to the channels we want, not the channels we are forced to have. The bbc make too much money as it is.
Another thing about the TV licence - i bought my TV to play my consoles and DVD's on. I didn't have a TV arial for months, so why did i have to pay a stupid TV licence?

I just cant wait for the flannel clad, clam chomping femminists to protest this one.
there are already like a million chick oriented TV stations.... let me see... weve got lifetime, home and garden tv, oxygen....blah blah blah.

How many channels do you guys have?
We have about 35 I think... and that's with cable. Belgian, French, Dutch, German, English, Turkish and Italian channels. Sometimes just 1 per country... depends. I'm sure I forgot some.

i like the sound of spike TV! if you vote for whats on, then thats only good!
you don't know TV ariel? You taking the micheal?
anyways: A TV ariel is like a wire thing you stick in the back of you TV so you can pick up analoge transmission signals, similar to radio. Most people have satelite or cable now, but terrestrial TV is still going which means i have to pay a stupid TV licence......
I can't wait for terrestrial TV to be terminated (or at least become public domain).

It's only the BBC stuff that forces the whole licence... I don't particularly watch any BBC channels, and I don't have digital so I can't get their extra channels.
It'd be so much nicer if we could not pay the fee and simply not watch BBC...

I have digital cable. My cable box goes up to 999 but a couple hundred are pay-per-view channels and some pay movie channels (HBO, Cinnemax, ****O,)
With my package I probably have maybe 300 viewable channels.

w00t!
anyway, my favourite channel was Toonami on CNX - non-stop cartoons... ALL THE TIME! (they even showed cowboy bebop! teh best anime series ever!) Unfortunately, it turns out it was just a teaser month... where they give it to you for free... and then rip it from your icy clutches when you least expect it! daamn you telewest *shakes fist* daaaamn you!
(on the good side, it means I dont have to sit and watch Dragonball Z all day - my brother was so obsessed :-\ Luckily I've found something new to watch! I'm leeching 'Naruto' off a friend. Omg, it is SUCH a good anime series - everyone should check it out)

I reckon both BBC and ITV are full of rubbish. I watch Sky Sports for the well, sports obviously, Sky One for stuff like Futurama and Simpsons, and whatever music channel happens to be perforating my eardrums this week.
Actually, no, I lie. I watch Top Gear on BBC, because Clarksom is a funny guy and I love cars. :)
Fester, you've never heard of the phrase 'taking the mickey'???

most of the music channels I've got (the free ones) are bollocks. BBC is pretty good. they've got 24 (BBC3 has 24 a week ahead.. w00t!). EastEnders is the show to end all shows ;) and Top Gear is really good now. I really enjoy that. Channel4 is usually good.. thought Big Brother's just started up again, so it's hogging all the air time - but I like Ch4 films, and Six Feet Under is absolutely brilliant!

wowsers - that is amazing how many channels you get. probably most of them rubbish right? i wonder how long it would take to flick through all of them and find something you like...
we have satellite tv at the moment and in total there are about 50 channels. i hate it how they make you charge extra for new channels like ESPN etc grrrrrrrr  now i see no NBA :*(

channels 1-300: nothing but crap, with occasional flashes of brilliance.
Actually, that sounds more like a weather report......

Actually a good chunck of them are pretty good. Its digital cable so navigation is pretty simple. Hit menu and you can search for shows set reminders for when they are on, you can search for just movies. Its pretty slick...the only downfall is that you cant "flip" fast. It takes over a second for the channel to come up so it takes a wicked long time to go through all of them....
That bites asphalt...ESPN is free for me :)
TheOrangeOne
June 4th, 2003, 11:34 AM
so you can cycle through the channels all day, because by the time you get back to the first channel you were watching a new show would've have started (or you got so many channels, you can't even remember the first channel you watched!)
Sure ly this many channels would promote attention decifit disorder in children though?
.......what were we talking about again?
Whippersnapper
June 4th, 2003, 11:39 AM
I have Digital cable, and HBO and Cinemax. It would be dumb to start at one channel and then just flip up and down all 300 channels. I have probably 20 channels I watched regurally. So most of the channels I don't bother watching. And there are some I purposely don't watch like lifetime, because that channel is tramatizing.

June 4th, 2003, 11:42 AM
so what's the point in having them? ;)
TheOrangeOne
June 4th, 2003, 11:43 AM
yeah, some channels are cool. but only for a few shows i find. I say ther should be a Matt Groening (or however you spell his last name) Channel. Imagine it - a channel that showed nothing but the simpsons and futurama!

HA HA tramatizing!
Any channel that purpuosly shows unedited footage of babies being fired out is traumatizing!
Christ Man! the channels call is "LIFETIME - Television for Women"
Thats enough to let me know that there is placenta involved and not to go there.....EVER
Whippersnapper
June 4th, 2003, 11:48 AM
I don't mind the baby shooting out so much as I mind the lifetime movies that are worse than soap operas. Everyone is about how some a Woman triumphs over her dead beat husband who is having an affair while simetaneously is an arsonist who likes children in the bad way.
