After seeing the wonderfull animations created by Majeye (http://www.kirupaforum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25016 )
I've decided that i want to have a stop frame battle! I've never done this before, but it sounds fun :beam:
anyone interested in this? Go on, you know you want to!

kit: pfft! Us real artists steal them off our friends ;)
Yes, I'd like to join. As with Voetsjoeba, I've got an exam on the 26th June, so if you can wait a bit, that'd be great. If not, I can still see what I can come up with
w00t! my first battle! (possibly) :)

We can give it a long deadline, give people time. :) Though we'd need a different mod to make it all offical anyway and give a theme. :)

woo! my first real battle! i say we keep photo editing to a minimum, in order to keep this as true to original stopframe as possible.
(ASPHALTCOWBOY: you using your friends camera? whats wrong with the 'special' one im sending you? ;) )

June 4th, 2003, 11:39 AM
hehehe... it was the compatibility issue you were talking about.
it got me worried

We still need some suggestions for themes... :)
asphaltcowboy
June 4th, 2003, 11:45 AM
why not just have... an action scene or something... (an emotional dialogue scene would be hard to do after all ;)) ooh, or maybe we could recreate an action scene from our favourite films? we get to pick the film we want.. then set down some more rules like timelimit, file size, resolution etc?
Kitiara
June 4th, 2003, 11:48 AM
Famous movie scenes sounds good to me... :beam:

TheOrangeOne
June 4th, 2003, 12:06 PM
im agreed! sounds v.good. shall we wait to see if others want to join? Or shall we give it a long deadline because of peoples exams i suppose.
Kitiara
June 4th, 2003, 12:06 PM
Well, if we leave it a little while, see if anyone else is interested, then I'll post the official thread (if no-one minds, since the topic has most likely been agreed by everyone beforehand). :)
asphaltcowboy
June 4th, 2003, 12:08 PM
sounds good... the longer the deadline the better :)
TheOrangeOne
June 4th, 2003, 12:17 PM
yeah, we need more time to be creative (so many ideas - such little time...........), plus a lot of us have jobs/college/uni.
how long we giving this one? are talking about one-two weeks or a month/s?
asphaltcowboy
June 4th, 2003, 12:20 PM
well... depends when it starts... if it's gonna start very soon... then month(s). if it's not gonna start for a good while, then I'd say 2/3 weeks.

i think that we ought to be pretty lenient for this contest, but have one major requirement: You must use a frame by frame animation technique. Whether you make a large animated gif, or a comlpex flash animation, it needs to be frame by frame animation.
Flash would be perfect for adding extras to your shots like speech bubbles, or special effects... I also think that photoshopping your frames should be allowed and encouraged, but you must alter each frame individually, as oppossed to cutting out an object, and then animating it accross a background with Flash motion tweens, which would make it a traditional animation. Pheww...
what do you guys and girls think?
TheOrangeOne
June 5th, 2003, 03:23 AM
sound like a good plan my friend! So, when does this become official, do we bring a mod in or somthing?
(I love the new change to your sig Majeye!)

i'm in too :). really like the idea
Maxtr0sity
June 5th, 2003, 08:13 AM
Yea, to verify, we should also submit the fla or psd or what ever source file in the end to verify the frame by frame details.
<--JAX-->
June 5th, 2003, 11:01 AM
wow theres quite a lot of people entering this battle
a movie scene sounds like a really good idea
oooooh i cant decide wat to do
im thinking of using lego (got absoulutely gallons of the stuff)
but i bet everyone else is also thinking of using lego as well
:block:

June 5th, 2003, 11:07 AM
I think I am going to use my bird and an inanimate object....I got a smooth idea
TheOrangeOne
June 5th, 2003, 11:57 AM
im gonna stick with good 'ol playdoh. Another thing asbout this battle, i dont think there should be a filesize limit, maybe a time limit instead. I think all the animations are going to be pretty memory heavy so a time limit seems the more sensible option. What you guys think?
asphaltcowboy
June 5th, 2003, 12:31 PM
dont know about a timelimit.. depends on what scenes people choose. perhaps have a timelimit as opposed to a filesize? or perhaps the other way round? I don't know, but I do think, however, that Flash should be essential... they HAVE to have preloaders! (I'd rather not have to watch a jerky gif animation play through once before having to watch it again)
imho ;)

I think it's ok to remove stuff (like fishing wire etc), but personally, I'd say it's pushing the boundaries of "stop-frame" by adding stuff through photoshop - other people's opinions? it's gonna be taking it too much out of context if people start adding bullets and whatnot
mjULTRA
June 5th, 2003, 03:47 PM
i think it would be great, to allow people to add special effects or whatnot.. I mean, whats a lightsaber battle without the red or green glow?
asphaltcowboy
June 5th, 2003, 06:14 PM
hmm... dunno though. depends if the original character photo contained the lightsaber... and some lighting effects were simply placed over the top.. that differs a lot to just having the character and editing-in the entire lightsaber... dunno... personally, I think it'll be more funny/enteraining to see what people can do with household items
;)
