Many thanks for all the help in the past. I have got my first site on the web and wondered if you would take a look? it didn't take long to make and is my very first site. I have been learning flash for a couple of months now and I would love your feedback. It's nothing special and only uses basic stuff. The good thing is that there is are no pop ups and the only thing you have to ignore is the ugly advert that they have placed over the top of the flash site. Just an experimental site, that's all. Many thanks.

yes i drew them. using line and fill. If you visit the site again, you will notice that there is an email link. if you write to me there, I will send you a step by step list of instructions on how to do it. i have figured a way out and it aint as difficult as it looks. or write to me using my email for this forum which is:

Your text is hard to read on the black background...nice design though. Good work for a first sight.

you cant really call "trace bitmap" to draw now can you ?
other than that, not the worst first-flash-site i'v seen.
they'r usually a lot more blinky and noisily than this.

looks at Kirupa.com for tutorials on making pixel texts ie a crisp looking text - much more readable than the blurry one you seem to have...
Try to add a bit of interactivity; other wise why should you use a flash site ???

I did not use the trace bitmap tool. I used the following tutorials to learn the technique.
http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/lineart.htm
and
http://www.vectorize.de/tutorial.html
In the kirupa tutorial, he uses a cartoon but I used a downloaded photo which was put into photoshop and simplified using posterize.
It's easy to do but the effect is a bit cleaner than trace bit map.
MLK, you are correct about the interactivity but I have only had flash for a couple of months and have used all the things I have learned up to this point. I try and learn all the time and in about six months I hope to be fairly ok with flash.
thanks for getting in touch

sorry about that.
you cant really call "downloading a photo, then posterize it
in photoshop" to draw now can you ?

you seem to be having a problem understanding what i did. each line and shape is done by hand using the photograph as reference. After all, it would be difficult to illustrate from memory. please refer to the earlier tutorial links and you will see what I have done.
All the best

divtag, i think you should stop. If you don't have anything intelligent to say, don't say anything.
brintonwhite, Your site looks a bit too plain. You should maybe add some color and 'flash it up' a little. Maybe you could try to improve your current design. I love the pic you have drawn. Looks very good.
Good job. keep up the good work.
Peace

You need to change some of the HTML code so that the website
doesn't scale to fit the window...I'd say thats why the text is
blurry.

well... jawn.... .... i probably shouldnt be posting
this reply either... but "repulsive and not intelligent ??"
post your "drawings" in some of the art-forums
around then. You will get the same reaction. i simply told
you to be careful of what you clame to be "drawing".
if you put a piece of thin paper over an image, and simply
trace the image, ... .... is that to draw ?...

divtag, do you even have a copy of Photoshop? If so then you
would know what he is talking about...
It's clear that even if you did know what he has talking about
you wouldn't take any notice.
As was stated before; If you don't have anything intelligent to
say, dont say anything at all.

i know exactly what he did, you can say what you want,

i dont actually care bear in mind , but tracing is drawing as you are puting marks on a surface , which is drawing (there is nothing under the definiton of drawaing which states you cannot use guides hehe) i think what you are trying to say is not that it isnt drawing (cause clearly it as he produced an image) but that it didnt require much skill, but then i dont remeber the poor guy ever saying he was picasso so drop it already.
On the site though its ok but one word of advice, ramp the framerate of your site to about 20+ fps it will be much improved.

Thanks ave, Yes i will up the frame rate. The way I worked on that small experimental site was just a way to develop an image that would not take long to download and would look nice and crisp. The trace bitmap option is of course a good way to work but I traced it just to see. My background is fine art degree so I can draw fairly well and I've also worked as a cartoonist for a comic called viz in england. It's true - i'm no Picasso but I enjoy trying out design. I am delighted at the way this thread has gone. Good to get loads of opinions.
Thanks
