My first impression is one of something very scary... Im not exactly sure why but the images seem to be very dark and seedy.

I can't put my finger on why but maybe use some other images that don't give off that feeling...

Anyone else agree?

EDIT: Perhaps its the Scissors that fade to a darker colour?

Holy hell, are you advertising a salon or a horror movie? It's horrible, like seriously straight up BAD bad bad, like client is gonna lose revenues (if it was a real client) and sue you for being a horrible marketing professional bad.

If the client (sponsor?) requests the horror shots tell them that they're wrong, and don't do it. Clients need to hear that sometimes, it's really a fairly terrible excuse to say "the client wanted it that way". If they were artists they'd have done it themselves, right?

You need to look at yourself as a professional, not a tool. Everyone thinks they know best when they're talking to their designer, your job is to let them know that they do not. They don't constantly second guess their doctor or their dentist or their lawyer, and they shouldn't be doing that to you either.

It's one of the hardest parts of design, in my opinion.

for some inspiration:

etc...

You're trying to sell clean and sexy.

I just asked my girlfriend (girls know best about hair) what her first impressions were and she agreed with me.

My real problem is with the first image. Its a little out of focus and the quality is a bit low, but to top it off it looks like its placed on someones dirty floor.

Don't get me wrong im not picking at it for the sake of it.

As for the transition effect, yeah its pretty cool. I would love to see the quality of the images raised. Brighter, bolder, sharper images that really sell the hairdressers.

Yeah it works... Maybe a little smoother but it could work for this type of site!

Makes me think my haircut is going to hurt a bit.

Why does it fade to a darker tone? That's pointless...

It would be cool if the background was a panoramic image of the salon. Or something along the lines of that.

I don't really like the navigation at the bottom, I would change the font and possibly drop the opacity of the black behind it.

I'd recommend making more use of the pinkey-purple colour in the logo.

I'd also add some sort of a border and put the navigation/logo outside of the content area.

thanks for the feedback fellers.

As for the panaramic, that was my original idea but the shop is such an awkward shape it doesn't work. The pink/purple colour is going to be used more when i have some content for the website. I think the border is a good idea and i intend to use it as i thought the logo was a bit stranded.

I had the photo's fading because I don't want them to take he focus off the content when it comes.

Rather than fade the photos just put the content in a coloured box that is set to 70% opacity... That way you don't have to destroy your images.
