Why would you pay an extra $160 to buy something with features that you'll never use unless you plan to encrypt all of your top secret data and network with your subsidiary companies. I mean you don't have any high profile, confidential, business merger, investment fraud type documents I'm expecting.

i have a question to the people that install vista. is it really good? your computer works at the same speed or faster? the new applications are good? do you have problems to play data protected with drm?is it really worth it? does the 3d desktop is good for something? (top desk 1.4.1 make the same effect at xp), i also read that aero interface eats the laptops baterries.

Opinions will vary, but for me, Vista is as good as sliced bread. And I am somone who loves sliced bread. Regarding built-in applications, which ones specifically are you asking about? Most of the built-in XP applications were modified slightly, but some applications like Media Center were changed a lot.
When it comes to playing media files, if you can play it under XP, you'll be able to play it in Vista. Some newer content may have more restrictions, and Vista includes mechanisms to enforce those restrictions. I haven't had any of my media that worked pre-Vista stop working because I upgraded to Vista.
The 3D desktop by default doesn't do much, but application developers can write applications that take advantage of the fully 3D desktop. While TopDesk simulates the effect of Vista, it is doing so in software mode. Your main CPU is spending resources handling the display. In Vista + Aero, your graphics card handles all of the display tasks, so that's a huge benefit over XP.
To address your last point, your laptop's battery life may decrease because your graphics card's fans work a little extra. Because the interface is handled by your graphics card, it has to do extra work - work that it only did when playing games before. Many newer laptop models feature better cooling to prevent this, so it isn't an across the board reduction in batterly life :)

I don't really care that much about DRM, mainly because I don't illegally download music so it's not really a problem. And if it does affect performance I don't really care because my 3.6 GHz 64-bit Pentium 4 will take down pretty much whatever I throw at it.

Blu-ray is cool but I don't think it will win the standard war just cause of the name. HD-DVD at least still has the name DVD in it. People are afraid of new things. I personally could care less until it is the standard.

DRM is never a problem if you download music/movies/etc. illegally. Only legal downloads have DRM. This is because CDs and DVDs usually do not have any form of DRM. Since most illegally available music or movies is originally ripped from a disc, there is no DRM.

Windows Vista No doubt an Ultimate OS. Provide excellent User Interface [GUI]. Extreme security/Process Speed and Management Feature. :mu:
Every Postive end has a Negative End.. Vista too, It's not suitable for those who are using 512MB or minimum RAM. Vista requires Minimum 512 MB. :stunned:
Vista requires 3 GB Hard disk space for installation/system files, whereas Windows XP requires 500 MB approx. :asleep:
For Multimedia and Hi-Fi User Vista is best and ultimate.. :mu:

Heres some Vista flaws:
Indexing service eats up the cpu big time, if you try copying any files over that are large, you may think your computer has crashed.
No more DirectSound3D, no more EAX... DirectX 10 no longer supports this.
And of course the dreaded run as administrator lol, if a program needs to update itself you need to run as administrator otherwise the program will just laugh at you.

Sounds a bit like a linux/GNOME feature, where it requires you to give admin password to use? Oh well, I wouldnt find it that annoying + I heard you could change it so it only comes up with certain things like: .exe's that try and modify system files and stuff like that.

If you have a 64bit system thats x64 yep you can, if you try it on a Itanium (spelling) 64, IA64 it will not work. All AMD64's and Core2's run 32 and 64s no problem.
