Someone asked me in a PM to show how I end up with the stuff I end up with, so here goes. :)

First I draw the picture on paper and scan it in...

http://www.nowingsnohalo.co.uk/extra/img_kitiara_sketch.gif

Then trace it in Illustrator or Flash or whatever program I'm using at the time....

http://www.nowingsnohalo.co.uk/extra/gallery_kitiara_b&w.gif

Then colour it and finish in Photoshop...

you are just too good...

I wish I had taken the time to doodle when I was young... always doing something else I guess...

Nice way of showing how you do it as well.

pretty cool. my only crit would be to make the folds curve inwards and outwards...hard to explain...like um...concave to convex.

I know, I'm broadening my horizons. :)

I like the effect PS gives when I colour in, so I'm trying that for a while. :)

Thanks you two. :)

Yeah Asphalt, I did see. :) It's cool - the difficult part is drawing the stuff by hand in the first place. :) You wouldn't believe how many notepads I get through... :sure:

I'm writing those drawing anime tutes too at the moment. Absolute bloody 'mare - I forgot how complicated it is to explain everything... :P

haha ye. I've been doing quite a few anime sketches over the past few days. My main problem is consistancy - if I'm doing a close up of a face for example: I often can draw say, one eye, really well... then I move onto the other one... and well... let's just say it all goes pear-shaped ;)

(btw, are you logged into MSN? have you broken it? ;))

Wow! You are amazing! I love anime, and just wow! God that is so amazing! Lol, the most anime I can draw is from one of them, "How to draw Manga" tutorials! Wow! I cant stop saying wow! Good work!

Thanks. :)

Asphalt - No I'm not, I forgot I even had it to be honest. blush:

The pear shaped thing... I know exactly what you mean. For me it's always the left hand side eye. Probably because I'm mainly right handed... The right eye comes out fine, the left one is always utter cack. I have started drawing the left one first, then minicing it on my decent side. :P

bah! well, I'm off to watch 24 on BBC3 now, but maybe you'll be around later? ;)

wrt the left/right eye thing: that happened to me just now godd*mnit! so bloody annoying! :)

Sensei she say - draw left eye first.

Or give them an eyepatch that side, that always works. ;)

I getcha... :) Cheers mate. :)

You're right, my folding directions aren't great on this one - I think I got them much better on the bed / sheet one I drew a few weeks ago. I'll take the Wacom to this tomorrow at work, that should help get things looking a bit neater. :)

mdipi

lol. kit how do you do line art in illustrator? i got FreeHand but i have used illustrator and there are many similarities but what do you use? I cant figure it out, i am stuck on bending my line lol.

Kitiara
June 2nd, 2003, 07:34 AM
I'm using the Pen tool to do it rather than the line... So you click to make one point, then click and hold down to draw the second point and curve the line. It's fiddly. Very fiddly. :sure:

asphaltcowboy
June 2nd, 2003, 07:40 AM
it's totally unintuitive compared to FireWorks imo. Firstly, once you've drawn the lines using the pen tool, you have to be absolutely pixel perfect to move the handles around. I can't, for the life of me, work out what combinations of keys I have to press to get the white cursor to actually do what I want... and basically it's a pain. That's why my first picture of kaneda took so bloody long!

I need some training... kit? ;)

Kitiara

I ought to start up some classes. :sure:

another nice pic :).... all drawn from the head i suppose, or is there a place you get your models (in that case i would like to know ;) )

Kitiara
June 2nd, 2003, 09:57 AM
Little bit of everything really. It helps if I have a model infront of me, at least the first time I draw a pose. Once it's down on paper once, then I can copy from my original.

Otherwise, it's a lot of standing infront of a mirror. :P

Black_Lightning
June 2nd, 2003, 10:06 AM
well i draw from my head, this way there is little chance i copy someone.... but this doesn't mean i would say no if someone would like to model (read: i need a girlfriend ;))

standing in front of the mirror lol, no i'm not gonna do that to the world :)

Kitiara
June 2nd, 2003, 10:07 AM
You just have to make sure that no-one else is watching. Otherwise you're standing there trying to pose and sketch at the same time and you look like a fool. :)

Black_Lightning
June 2nd, 2003, 10:14 AM
lol that's not the way i meant it :)... i usually draw when no-one is watching, can't stand someone looking over my shoulder..... usually because half way working on a sketch i get this feeling it's not gonna work out and i would rather trow it away.

What i meant was i prefer drawing intresting things so i'll pass on drawing me :)

(I'm assuming you've also got a Wacom Ed) - realistically, what's the minimum useful size for one of those? I really want one! we've got quite an old one, but it's a mac-compatible, and my dad's mac is sooooooooooooo old... it leaves a little to be desired!

Yep, what he said. Graphire 2. Middle of the range, but still more than enough to do whatever you need. :beam:
