Hi!
Just a quick question.
I confuse about the version of ActionScript right now, is it 2.0 or 3? :hr:
I just bought a book about ActionScript 2 and the book is published not so long ago.
Now, I come across ActionScript 3, is the the latest version of ActionScript?
Also, what is the latest Macromedia Flash version now? Is it Flash 8, Flash MX, Flash MX2004 or Adobe Flash 9?
Many thanks in advanced for the help!! :hr:

AS 2 is the current version. AS3 is out in beta form and can be used with the new flash player 9. You can find out more at the adobe website..

Actually AS3 is a complete language used with Flex 2. So I guess it depends on what application you are using. For Flash it is AS2 and for Flex it is AS3.
Flash 8 is the current Flash version.

ohh yeah, i heard of that... Flex 2. What is that?
And Sinister Rouge, you said AS3 can be used in Adobe Flash Player 9? Do you mean Flash Player (the player) and not the Flash software to create .fla ?
many thanks guys!

The current flash player is 9 but the Flash 9 development environment is only in beta. This means that you can create AS 3.0 projects either in Flex 2 or in the beta environment and it will run on the latest flash player.

actually AS3 is now Final Release. not beta.
The Flash 9 IDE is still in Alpha (or possibly beta who knows)
Flex 2 is a another product from Adobe that utilises AS3 for its scripting, and also borrows heavily from flash assets. (both products are meant to co-exist, not compete, from my impression).
So Flash 8 is the latest version of Flash (not the player). Flash 9 is the next version currently in development. AS3 is the latest version of Actionscript, and the only OFFICIAL IDE for AS3 is Flex 2. (technically, you could do all your As scripting in notepad)And the only thing that supports AS3 is Flash Player 9.
Remember, Actionscript is just that. A Scripting language.
AS3 != Flash != Flex
hope that helps.

Actually the current Flash 9 is just Flash 8 with an AS3 compiler - it's not a beta version.
Flex 2. What is that?
Flex and Flash are very similar when it comes to the final output (both create SWF). The difference is how you get to the final output, Flash is a much more visual application whereas Flex is geared more towards programming. Both applications will likely be used closely together to create applications once Flash 9 is released.

Flash 9 is supposedly going to be called Flash CS3.
