Does anyone know the max specs for defineing a custom brush. I want to make large ones for to work with on 300+ DPI projects but there seems to be a limit to how big they can be. Is it dependent on actual canvas size or is it a resolution issue? I'm just getting tired of using trial and error to find brush sizes that work.

Thanks

I think it is based on canvas and not resolution. But if you need them huge you may want to look at using symbols.

How the hell you been dude. Aint seen you round here in a while

I haven't encountered any 'limits'

I would assume the limit is whatever the brush you are using was designed in.

^pretty much answered what i wanted to say
depends on the original canvas and how big you originally made the brush;)

I'm running into problems where i'll have a image at for example 300 dpi at 8x10 inchs and i can't define a custom brush. This tells me there is a max limit to the size a custom brush can be created at. If there is a max limit i would assume the specs for this max limit must be known. Only after adjusting down the resolution and DPI will the option to define an custom brush become available. So this max limit must be specified some where.

And for anyone that was wondering I've been in school for the last couple years. I jsut completed and passed my Law entrance exam so I should be accepted into the College of Law next semester. I've been using my skills working part time for a tattoo shop working on print work and some smaller websites.

Funny thing you brought this up. Because I recently ran into brushes made for print. And it has to do with the size they were created at so essentially there is a limit of some sort. Never knew that

Errrm... I dunno how theoretically correct this is, but from a recent experience, I'd say take a new document at 72 ppi and an approximately proportionate document size, since the final is going to be on a 300 ppi canvas.

In this 72 ppi document, create and define your brush. Use this brush in the 300 ppi one and I believe you'll be able to multiply the size of your brush by 3x - 4x depending upon the quality of your brush and the texture detail it holds. I've done this with 4-5 images, and it worked somehow. It's worth a try.
