What is it supposed to be? I don't know any other way than to be blunt on this, it's very poor. It doesn't make sense. What are the aliased horizontal bars? What is the chrome deal on the bottom center. What's going on with the background? Why didn't you use any color? Black and white is cool if you can pull it off, but you didn't with this at all. The type treatment leaves a lot to be desired as well.

I'm just curious as to what it's supposed to be, I guess. I feel like it's supposed to be the grill of a car or the inside of a tricked out George Foreman grill.

Sorry if this was offensive :-/

no! not at all offensive! I appreciate comments. It is for a hard rock band that likes chrome. They are called The Royalty, and they like shields. I did my best to incorporate all of those features into one. The bars are just so that it isn't plain.

agreed, its lookin really shabby.

do you know illustrator? if so make your own art for it. there is a real technique to making worthwhile album covers.

adding bars so it doesnt look plain just shows that you know its not up to par.

PS chrome filter does not look good... EVER. realistic chrome has relfections and stylized chrome has a multi color gradient.

do some research on shields and get some feedback from the band on what they want, do research on the band itself, listen to the music.

i thought it was supposed to look like a wierd grill on a cadillac.

here is a tip: dont brainstorm on the computer... sketch on paper then when u have something that is a good idea, it will be quicker to make a comp that is more focused.

typography = bad. try combining letterforms or playing with it...

there is so much to be said, spend 4 hours making roughs and thumbnails then go to the CPU.

for the chrome piece you would be better off getting some stock photo and rework it than trying to recreate it. I think you are trying for that stamped diamond plate look. And that is better done as a photo-manip. Be sure to use hi-res images

it looks like a mix between concrete and a grill.

ok. This is their site (http://www.theroyalty.net). Do you think I should incorporate trees? Can anybody show me a sample of what they think would look good?

PS. I have more that just this cover. There's about 22 more that use different styles and ideas.

working a nice tree effect would be cool, i wouldnt use that same font though or if you do rework it so it fits more with the trees.

there are just too much effects clashing.
maybe just the shield in the center with their logo or something. lose the bars, they look ugly.
you could do much better mate;)
