hey ya folks! :)
please comment on this mag cover i made as part of my college assignment. The artwork (of da man) alone is a painting - acryllic on paper. The rest was made in PS.
Do give your take on the LOGO as well.
If any of you want the mag (PDF version) I'll be happy to send it.
Bring it on... Rip it apart!

oops I forgot:
> The mag's name is "ed"
> It's a visual communication mag
> The whole mag was made in a hurry, just in time for a college assignment, MADE in 3 DAYS!!

Copy and paste the link, evurryone.
The pink stuff on the right is really bad.
It's pretty good though, not sure why you did such a nice painting and then ruined it with trendy dripping paint garbage and stuff, but that's your prerogative I guess. Also Price $5.6 isn't being unique, it's being confusing. You're reaching with that one.
I assume the full resolution version doesn't have messed up text either?
I do like the painting though, the rest just leaves quite a bit to be desired.

meh... it's nice but I would have worked on the text some more. I like the painting. Maybe if you looked at real magazines to see how and where they place their text then you could get some ideas...

i would drop those pink rounded rectangles and work on the text on the bottom of your page.

SimplyArun, nice job, good graphic, and dynamic image. I agree with xxviii on the pink rectangles and the white drips (Satyajit is a humanitarian film maker not a terrorist- which the drips say to me ) There are a lot of visually rich images in Bengali where he films. Great effort for 3 days !

Again like some people where saying on the posted image the text looks like it could do with some anti-aliasing... but it is a good effort.

Your logo is the part that would worry me. The fact that you had to tell us what the mag was called speaks volumes. I would've assumed it was called "el". As a one-off piece of art it's fine and it works with the current cover pic, but how practical would the logo be when you have a different cover image next month? Your logo/masthead is the key brand that identifies your product with your audience and which makes them identify with you when each new issue date comes around.
Remember that your masthead is the most important thing to get right - your magazine will be sitting on shelves with a ton of competitors so it's imperative that it:
a) shouts out "BUY ME" or, at the least "READ ME", louder than the competiton
b) reflects the ethos of the magazine and the intended audience
c) can be seen! Most magazines are stacked on shelves so try to imagine how your masthead would look if your mag was placed at the back so that only the top couple of inches were visible.
I agree about the price - dropping the last digit is not sensible. I understand why you've included the pink thumbmarks (although using such a vivid pink isn't ideal and this technique would be more suited to a contents page inside the mag) and why you've reinforced them with the use of your logo. What I don't understand is the arbitrary use of that logo - sometimes at the start of a word, sometimes at the end, and sometimes using it to replace letters. It's confusing and not at all consistent.
Otherwise it's a good frontcover image.

^^ Quite amazed that people in the west know so much about this man! :beam: Your comment is indeed insightful. Actually the drips were meant to represent paint splatters from the painting itself (guess it didn't turn out that way :()
