Sound loop battle

I was wondering if anybody would be interestied in a Sound loop battle. Any soudn loop app could be used as long as it can make a loop. 30-60 sec loop could be any sound style or type. Only serious challangers need apply. The loop would be put in a simple flash file nothing more then a stop and play button. I want this to be about the sound and not the control interface.

No i'm jsut starting to do full compositions. I've been palying with acid pro for a while now and think i want to try a battle at it.

i might give it a go, im getting a program on monday (ur sunday) so i should be able to give it my best shot, all i do is listen to trance/techno and design (non-sound most the time) but as i said, ill give it a go :)

Count me in, i have over 1 GB of loops, i use a less poppular programme called Gold wave, it works for me

Anyway, i was thinking about 2 entries and length can b any, loop has to sound catchy and gripping, can be of any length, like this one. its 0 sec loop, i extracted this one from chemical brothers-hey boy, hey girl(i think tht was the name)

talkin bout the battle, i dont know wat the limits are, if i can use a loop from any of the title or my find(website),at the end of the day u have to extract the loop from one or the other track or music piece.I have so somany options all ready to upload, i am just playing around wid uploading few funny ones, i dont know wich one to choose:q: :q: :q: :q: :q:

Ya you shuld try to make it as origonal as possible. Not so much making a loop from an existing song but making your own loop. Maybe no more the 30 secs. Maybe if Dan would be kind enoguh he could extend the due date a little to maybe a week and a half or so.

I was just confused about the rules, i posted 2 loops, indirectly to ask if this was allowed (borrow a clip) and things like that.I m new here and this is my second battle, my first one(flash menu battle) did'nt go too well because participents were not able to finish their posts,but goals were crystal clear.Illiyasmasse was the mod and one of the participents(winner too, as far as i think)

lemme break it down.

Contestants are allowed to sample sounds, loops, and whatnot for use in their projects, however, you must change them somehow, chop them up, or put them in a different order. We want an original loop, not just a section cut from a professional artist. The key here is originality, and looping a 3 second excerpt from a famous artist is not original. Now, if you sped it up, and layered it with a different drum track, and added extra effects then it would be okay. Comprende?

The main point for me to set rules is by determining a due date, participants, file size, programs used, and stuff like that. The other more detailed rules is up to you. I am no sounds pro so it isn't my place to do anything.

Well im happy with an extra week. Im on a temp computor for a while until my one is finshed being upgraded so i prolly won't be able to put my loop in flash. So will it be okay to have it just as a download (you'd get better quality)

I just caught this thread. If the due date's been officially extended a ways beyond June 7, please count me in. This sounds like great fun.

I have a few questions / thoughts ...

1. What criteria will be used to judge the winner? Are we targeting a certain style, tempo, vibe ... ? Maybe future battles can be more specific? Just a thought.

2. Compositions should be COMPLETELY original in both melody and rhythm. If we're just splicing someone else's work on top of another program's drum loop ... hmm ... seems sorta lame-o. Maj is right -- comps should be hardcore original. The playing doesn't have to be entirely organic, but the musical arrangement does. I wonder if I'm making any sense?!?! (-:

3. Can we just submit the mp3?

What program(s) did you use? I'm pretty heavy into Nuendo, but Samplitude is looking better and better.

I used Fruityloops 3.3 - I used Sound Forge to do my voice, then brought that into fruityloops. Oh and during the trippy little break there's a drum loop in there that I made with a demo of mixman studio.

Now how is nuendo? i have heard of it; samplitude I've heard of.
The main ones I use now are Fruityloops and Cool Edit

Well i made the drum loop in mine and i carefully layed it over a 2 second sample off a timeless classic so if fits just right. Surely thats as creative as doing something else but useing your own work...

Nuendo is great. I've enjoyed learning it. Samplitude is more transparent though; more depth and punch than Nuendo. I use the Aardvark Q10 for my soundcard and breakout box. It's been great for home recording.

How long have you been into digital recording? Ventured into the VST arena yet?

On another note, have you checked out the Studio Projects C1 mic yet? Killer mic, rivaling the expensive German classes, only waaaaaay cheaper. Amazing vocal mic, especially considering the price. It does really well on acoustic guitar too.

When's the deadline on the battle?

you can't enter a battle; not do anything; then after the deadline say hey wait- let's extend it and change the rules!
that's the point of the rules in the first place...now i myself have joined a battle and missed the deadlin; but i just took my losses - i didn't ask for any favors...

it's my opinion; people submitted their work; this thread got plenty of publicity (ex. it has 5 pages) the deadline passed, now lets vote - if only 2 people submitted work; then that means 2 people submitted it the right way. this contest was already extended forever past the original deadline...

mod we need your help on this. people can't keep bending the rules in these battles- i mean what's the point - there's no satisfaction in competing or winning if it keeps getting postponed~?

I agree with what PRS is saying about rules. In any case, I would like to see more people participating in the competition -- therefore my suggestion for a new, possibly improved and more publicized battle. Just my $0.02.
