well, if i take this last marketing class now i don't have to take it next semester, so i would only have two classes left in the fall untill i graduate in december. so yeah i choose to do it now and get it over with in three weeks, but it's like a giant cram session.

Good luck to you, pinx. I never really understood the American education system... about choosing which classes you take, summer classes, etc. It seems very "free".
I think we should have such a system too in Europe...

Well it's more like limited choice, I have a ton of core requirements and other classes that I have to take, but would not freely choose.

yesterday we talked about the class and introduced each other for like an hour and a half and then we talked about what globalization means to us for another hour and a half. yay.

oh it is. i just came back from it. i seem to be one of the few who actually contribute to the class. there are 38 people in the class, by the way. today we talked about why companies should expand internationally. when we exhausted all the ideas, she asked a guy in class what he thinks and he's like "i think it's all about money"... WELL DUH!!!!!!!! businesses are in business to make money. MY GOD!

just got back from class. today we talked about culture and what values, beliefs, aspirations of other cultures are. i guess it wasn't that bad. but then we started talking about International Theories of Trade. BORING. the girls that sit by me are two sorority chicks and they scoff at everyone's comments. why do these people always sit by me?

so today my group and i presented. well actually, there's like 6 of us in the group and only me and this guy presented. but anyways, we did pretty good until it was time for us to ask the class questions about the topic, "the top five countries for investment by US". we asked our first question and NOBODY in the class responded. so the teacher asked us what we thought. ok fine, we ask the second question and again NOBODY responds. so the guy i was presenting with asks me "so djuka, what do you think?"

finally, on the third questions, we had a winner. the guy asked a question and we started up a small kind of debate.

i swear, most of those people are braindead.

oh and the teacher pissed me off kinda. i had to research the netherlands for one of the investment countries and so i had to also find info about their business etiquette. well i found this good source, published in the university library, that has great information on those things that i needed.

well i said that when conducting meetings in the netherlands, it is impolite to shout across the room, so speaking at close distances is preferred.

the teacher is like, "where did you find this info?" and i said "the library" and she's like "i've been to the netherlands and they are the loudest people at meetings and are very arrogant". she was surprised that i found what i did. i just told her that this was the best source i could find and that i trust the source, but that there might be exceptions. she's like "well how do you know it's like that?" and i said "well, i did research on it. i can't say it for sure, but i have stuff to back it up. after all, i've never been to the netherlands."

she didn't say anything after that. i hate it when teachers question my credibility when they have all the references in front of them.

continuing with my online rantings about my international marketing class....

June 3, 2003

Another group presented today on the easiest topic available to them: sex in advertising. they said that the united states was a liberal country when it comes to portraying sex in advertising and in general to which all of us foreign students from europe said was a horrible misconception on their part. the U.S. is heavily regulated as far as what can be shown. ANYWAYS, after the presentation we started the lecture on promotion in global markets. stuff i've heard about 3000 times by now. so i left 2 hours early, couldn't be there anymore.

Hehe, you should create a blog site pinx and just write about your day :) I think the amount of sex in advertising in the US is far less than what I saw in Europe when I visited/lived there haha. Some of the ads don't even have the black censoring boxes...even some billboards on the streets advertising the most innocent of products (like a frisbee - couldn't think of any product that was innocent) couldn't do without some nakedness.

That was in Germany about 10 years ago....I don't think that it would have slowed down anytime recently :)

I found it best, that when leaving a lecture earlier than others, to let out a loud sigh, kick the desk or chair down, make a big fit, and run out the door screaming - it sends a loud message, and if you are lucky, other wannabe-pinxes will follow you in the same fashion!

Cheers!

You call *that* "sex"? Heh! It's true, in Europe the amount of nakedness in advertisements and movies is bigger than in the US, but I don't think that's something wrong. In fact, I rather think that the US is a bit too protective in this matter. Remember the film "Eyes Wide Shut"? We could see it entirely. :) And seriously, the censoring on MTV is rediculous! I passed an advertisement poster today with a woman holding her breasts. The other one was in bikini. What's wrong about that?
