Yup:p: ...a logo for my first portfolio website. Whaddyathink? A quick version of my logo design, no random abstract messy stuff. This time is minimalistic, nice and neat(In my opinion)...
Looks nice? Looks crap? Looks old? Looks random? Not a graphic design? It is a graphic design? Is a logo? Is not a logo? The title sucks? Bad English? Meaningless? Bad font choice? Good font choice?...etc
Thats right!!! Time for serious critque. Comments and criticisms...all accept, as long as there is good reason...
I luv the Gamecube font(-: ...
(Can't find logo?...read the thread and you'll eventually find it)

It's pretty good. I find the name to be a little over the top.

Interesting concept with the logo but its just not "there" yet
I don't really like how its 3D, and it also doesnt match the roundedness of the font,
Go with what you have there but make it 2D, looking straight on, with some roundness

I really like the logo actually. I dont like the Alpha part on the top of it. I also dont like the typeface but the logo is nice IMO.

I like it but I think it needs a little bit of work, shading ect.

I really like it. What kills it for me though is the Alpha part. Both in the actual name, as well as the alpha symbol take away from the "u" and "9" design, which is the part that looks the best. Any chance it could be just Ultimate 9 :P

I like the logo without the lil alpha symbol. Maybe only use that symbol in the text treatment. Leave the symbol alone. I'd raise the contrast on the 9. It almost gives me the Escher-ish feel. I like it.

Thnx for all the comments. I've made a four version of the logo.
Oh...by the way...the site will be random lines, geomertry shapes and some simple abstract image, more like a sci-fi futuristic style. So, I wonder which design of the logo suit the best.
Top right:
Yup, better shading (or worst...but in my opinion looks better) the alpha sign is still there. I've did what DDD said (I'm not sure what you mean by Text adjustment), leave the alpha alone and slightly higher the contrast. It does make the whole thing look better. Inside the 9 do looks like a 3D room with a alpha symbol floor.
Top left:
This is what happen I make it 2D with round corners. Basically I can't make it look straight, it look pretty bad after I made it straight. So, I just left it isometric, oh yeah...and the round corners now fits the title. Looks quite cool also, the 9 itself look as if it is 3D but in fact it just stick beside to the "U". And also made the purpose of the logo clearer since U and 9 just so easy to notice them.
BTW...I can't put the round corners in my 3D version, it came out some ugly outline and the illustrator just refuse to clean them up.
Bottom right:
Same as the top right but without the notorious alpha symbol. (Ignore my stupid typo in my image at the bottom right...)
Bottom left:
My very first original design.:nerd:
Also, all you can see that the "alpha" in the title, is slightly smaller and darker. So it look more neat this time compare to the original big bulking random grey blob. And I shifted the tile downward slightly so it doesn't seem to stick with the logo too much.
For 111am. I'm sorry the "alpha" in the title is actually have a purpose for my design. Alpha means first, which means the first version of my flash portfolio. I wouldn't use the same site forever and ever again and again. I will make another site again once my graphic design and web developing skill improve to a certain degree. And there it goes...alpha, beta, gamma, delta...but I don't think I can reach to omega. Still...I did something about it and see if it looks better or not.
Right...now is your turn to speak:pleased:

Dont like the typeface and hate the fact that it says "alpha" at all...
Like the idea for the logo though, although it reminds me of a 3d/retro version of "snake" getting stuck while trying to eat "alpha". Maybe thicken up the lines and bring the depth down a taaaad bit.

i like the 2D one, looks nice.
the P should be even with the U on the 2d version

After a bit of testing in illustrator, I'll still decide to use the original 2D for the 2D version. The reason why is that the 9 can look more significant when it stand out a bit. If I make it the same height, the 9 is a bit hard to see, and also made the whole logo into a boring square. Also, make it even will lose a bit the sense of 3D like. The interesting part of the logo is is 2D, but it also have a 3D feeling. (Beside...the 9 is actually above the U, but it also looks like as if they are on the same plane too.)
But...thnx for your comments and glad you like it.:dog:
Also, if one more people criticise about my font choice for the title, I'll find a font for the title again. Some suggesting font will be really helpful, too. Just realized I'm really bad at choosing fonts. *aww...I like that gamecube font :-/
If people can help an alternative word for "Alpha" or "First"...it will be really nice too. Since some people actually dislike the word "Alpha"
By the way..say which one you like the best, too...so I can decide which logo I will be using for my portfolio. Remember my site will be random lines and simple geometry shapes, sci-fi futuristic.:cyborg:

for what it is worth I like the font choice and the logo over all. I think it is pretty strong in execution and presentation.
Bottom left and top right look the best IMO. Also instead of saying "Alpha" I would just use the symbol next to the text.
Good job
