Here is round 2 of my logo revision for SaltMill.org, a web design studio for non-profits. There are 2 versions here, the only difference being color. Each version is displayed on white & black backgrounds.

Round 1 is here if you want to see it. (http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=235919)

I am looking for overall critiques as well as input on color. Thanks for all who contributed to round 1 - I'd love to hear from you again.

For me the text seems too much in the background. I think the (salt shaker)? needs to be toned down.

Ah, excellent. You're really great at listening to advice. This is a very nice logo, I like it a lot. I think that there is a bit too much space between the 'r' and the 'g' and the 's' and the 'a' - but that's my only real critique.

I still absolutely love both of them! :thumb2: It's mainly a question of preference between the blue and the green versions; but I think the blue would do better if it had a lighter, more ocean style color because you get salt from the ocean. ;)

Big improvment over round 1, I like the green one best.

the actual logo or salt shaker looks more to me like a pepper shaker. ive never known of a salt shaker to have a handle on it like that. also i think the text is WAY too much in the background. i dont relaly like the colour scheme either. sorry, this is a nay from me.

Apix - Thanks for the honest critique - I can understand (though don't agree with) the point about the text. I like the fact that the icon is in the foreground - it comes across stronger to me than other versions I made where the text dominated. But I do understand that not everyone will see it that way. ;)

It is not often that I have the pleasure of introducing someone to something for the very first time - enter the friendly rotating world of salt mills (not salt shakers) with crank handles  :

Both versions are very nice. I am leaning more toward the blue, but that may just be because I like the color blue better:P

I like the concepts but I to feel that the "salt mill.org" is being over powered by the logo seems to be more in the background then part of the overall logo. But really nice job!!!!!

Looking good. Still not quite feeling the space between the r and g but everything else works for me.

i have an idea. try to put a stroke of about 3-5 pixels around the salt shaker that is the same colour as the background. i think it would lok better if the letters werent merging into the salt shaker.

Thanks everyone for the input - I'm switching hosts and the logo images will be unavailable for a while. I'll use your input and make my final version soon. Thanks!

wait, salt mill is "an interactive media studio" - i don't think this logo is good AT all then. that salt shaker (which is actually a pepper grinder) doesn't say "interactive" "media" or "studio" to me. it actually says, "come in and have yourself a salty hamburger" ...or something... but nothing about media.

and i tend to hate fonts where the uppercase letters are the same height as the lowercase letters.

i know you're late in the design game here but you might want to rethink the logo and maybe even the name.
