Hi all,

Been working on this site for quite a while now. Too long in fact. It's for my high school.
Not working on it anymore because I am completely done (except or perhaps like 10-minute changes, etc.).

It didn't exactly turn out the way I had hoped, but I think it's alright for my first flash site.

Like to know what you guys think.

Here (http://meisoc.com/flash1.html)

EDIT: It's going super slow! It was working fine like an hour ago, but now it's super choppy! Also missing an advertisement for the school store in the top right hand corner.

Choppier than a ninja with a paring knife. :ninja:

Those x and y values.. is it where your mouse are located? If so... why? :look:
But Its really hard, and boring to check out when it's that choppy. So if it get's better, then I'll prolly critique some more: ) But looks like you have put a lot of work into it, pretty good job for first:)

For being your first flash site, I have to take my hat off to you. :thumb: Playing with the Frame Rate may speed up the users experience and I'd love to see/know how your images are bringing brought into
Flash and at what formats.

Kind Regards - hetlcicht

Pic up the frame rate and add a preloader...fix your first problem.

As said above...for your first flash site, not bad :)

You must have a whole ton of random loops running. Perhaps you're not properly closing them out. You also have some useless things, like the x/y mouse thing, which would be sucking up resources for no return - no one cares.

Also, that slideshow is taking up a ridiculous amount of space, and it doesn't go away... The content needs to be the important thing, not the picture of your friend's crotch.

yea, it can't all be frame rate problems... there are other things there sucking power. and as we all know, those boards don't work on water...you need more powah!

well I do have a preloader on there, but it doesn't show up for very long.
And the person who got me to do the site said he wanted the slideshow to be the focal point of the site.

I'll experiment with some of those loops and see what I can do.

Thanks all. :)

Sometimes animating everything at once at the beginning is not good

break up the "building" of the site, ie stagger when the different content chunks fall into place so that not everything is going buck wild all together at the beginning. That, tied to a higher frame rate will pump up the speed quite nicely

Ah, found the problem.
I was animating the background image in, and that image is like 1000x150. Apparently it slowed it down.

:D

Thanks all!

YEa that might help lol

just curious what you have the fps at right now?

30-40 is always good.

Yeah doesnt look to bad. Nice layout. as what ø said, are thoose x and y values really neccacary. I found myself more interested in finding out where 0,0 was, than the content on the site. And yeah pump up the frame rate, or do a frame rate analysis on it, too see what is slowing it down so much. Also, i dont reckon the colours of the buttons on the side really fit in, but thats just my opinion.

You are going to get a lot of work off of that if you can showcase it right. Best of luck I started around the same time you did....Do good work and make people happy and ull have all the money a youngster can use....Anyways....

what i see is absolutly good stuff. Try to fix some of the choppiness - The picture at the top is really pixelated. Some of the fonts can be smaller....some maybe bigger give me a clear indication of where you want my eyes to go. Whats most important

Thank you all for your comments.

For the buttons- my teacher wanted to brighten up the site - he said it looked 'very cold' without them. And I changed them frmo before, and they look a bit better.
I have my fps at 25 right now.
Yeah I will probably take out the X/Y thing tomorrow.

It just feels good to get this all over with. It's taken me too long (one of my weak points - I take too long with work).

Thanks again!
