PLEASE HELP: One or the other....

I have two designs for my portfolio that i'm trying to decide between. Both sites have some design errors or are just not completed yet. What i would like you to do is list what you like and hate about each one and then finally which one i should continue on with. PLEASE help i'm really stuck and so far the only opinion i've recieved on this matter has been no help. both images are linked below.

They're both really far from incomplete (thus hard to make a decision), but #2 looks much more amateur.

number 1
the navigation is really bad. at first glance i thought it was just a caption or a quote type thing for the header, theres really not much to the design other than a few grungy type brushes splashed over the page. the green content area looks tacky and 98ish. i DO like the idea of the cutout name with some squiglys behind it. kinda like silly string. i think you need some way of closing it off at the end of the page. like a footer or something.

number 2
waayyy too small and to minimal. there are NO strong design elemtns in this mockup. the navigation doesnt fit the style of the backgorund(again, the grungy feel). the header looks very tacky as the colours clash and are very dull.

conclusion
If i had to choose one of them...... it would be the first version. With some more elemnts added and some stronger aspects, i think it could be the winner here. try to make some sort of ORIGINAL way of displaying content... not just a green box. also i think you need some more room between your name and the navigation. kthnx

I think both need more elements has everyone said ....
I also think you need more contrast in both design ....
I will get rid of the bg in number 1 or change it
number 2 need a lor more contrast
if I have to decide for one now .... I will pick one as well .

i'll take these thoughts into consideration. but like i said neither is done, and i wasnt planing on just sticking text on number 1 or 2 and calling it a day. ideas of what to do would also be nice haha. (navigation on idea 1 is noted)

Add some paint splats effect and see how it looks, but make sure it doesn't mess the content page.
