I've been following that advice and I'm liking the results what do you think?

try doing it on better paper or without a sharpie that bleeds. usually they look a little cleaner, a pencil with some fake 3d shading would help it. one other graffiti trend that looks interesting (sometimes overdone) is cleverly accenting the ends of the strokes with arrows.
look up some of Bansky's stuff (a little more of a stencil style though).

It was a pencil schetch and looked like crap, so I went over it with a sharpie
but I'm still working at my letter structure and I'm seeing a huge improvment

I am aiming at more of a graffiti type graffiti, not a ton of rats running around

Well, this has clearly lost it's speed. You can't expect to get the same result when tracing a line, it shows. You shouldda scanned it and enhanced it through ps.
Graffiti is all about confidence in the line you're drawing. No paper bleed.
@guinness: is it banksy your referring to? i guess noone can fill his shoes, cause the shoes he's walking around in ain't made yet. But h*ll yeah, great inspiration.

Don't mind at all. Bubble letters are far from out of style, but they don't have enough character for my likeing
