I don't know how old are you, but yeah and you will learn this with time.

When I get "balmed" I like either "pepperment" or something fruity like "mango".

Oh yeah, she has to have soft hands also!

But I haven't figured out the mirror thing when I want to balm someone. I usually don't "balm" myself, so I don't understand that either danulf.

btw, nice entry grim. very good reflection.

I like these - nice battle idea, Salvador.

I'm nowhere near the same standard but I thought I'd give it a go with some pseudo-3D effects in Flash:

That pic was perfect to use - the lines on his outfit and his hand resting outside the frame helps to emphasise the whole 3D effect.

At first i was all like wtf?!?!?!?!? then i saw Mona Lisa !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I still don't get what's up with frames?

The thread is called "create 3d looking image from a painting", so I did. But everybody else seem to copycat original poster?

edit: btw, look what (http://www.1st-art-gallery.com/fake.jpg) could be done in a battle with reversed rules (not mine, I just found it)

October 6th, 2006, 05:33 AM
Btw, can someone guess my Van Gogh?

glosrfc
October 7th, 2006, 05:00 PM
I've no idea which Van Gogh that is although he painted the outside of a pork butcher shop...so is this the inside of the shop?

People have used frames to try to accentuate the three-dimensional aspect of their pictures. It's a fairly obvious 3-D device designed to fool the observers' eyes into believing the depth-of-field is greater than it really is. And most of the great paintings are usually framed. I don't think anyone (apart from me) has copied the original poster.

As for my shameless copies...I don't have Photoshop and would probably suck at it if I did. So seeing as this seems to be predominantly a Flash forum, I thought it would be fun to have a go at animating some of the other entries to try and bring them 'alive' if possible, and also to reinforce the 3-D effect. I'll leave it to you whether I've succeeded or not :D

Errr....yes ;)Well don't hide the knowledge...geez!

glosrfc
October 15th, 2006, 08:02 PM
Ahhh, I didn't realise that you actually wanted to know :)

Okay...basically it's a movieclip that contains tweened masks that gradually reveal the image. The rest is actionscript - a function loads a separate instance of this movieclip into a blank container for however many frames there are in the clip along with a gotoandstop command that sends the playhead to the relevant frame in the movieclip. So if the masked movieclip consists of 25 frames, you end up with 25 instances of the movieclip on the stage showing frame 25, 24, 23...frame 3, 2, 1. Then a little easing is applied to each of these instances to make them move.

If I get a minute, I'll create a clean example as the files are a bit messy.

BTW...this is the pooch (http://www.pi.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Flash/3dshire.html) in question!
