Got myself the new Macbook 2.0 ghz Black Notebook this weekend and upgraded it myself to 2.0 gb of ram.

Anyways, I've used mac at school before at school and it was quite annoying, but now im starting to find all those annoyances actually VERY useful once you are forced to learn how to make it work to best efficiency

PROS:
- Notebook faster than my desktop ( less space n stuff )
- Mac OSX is to die for, I dont think im ever going back to windows
- Included basically everything I think I only had to download Mozilla / Thunderbird and a few other minor things, no dvd playing software ect..

CONS:
- These new notebooks heat up ALOT, I downloaded some new firmware makes the fan run more often but still pretty warm.
- Video/Audio Chats with MSN dont work, cant get audio to work with even 3rd party clients :(
- Onboard video is just poop but I had to deal with it

Overall I am VERY happy with my purchase and wouldn't think twice to do it again.

Im starting to see why for design, Mac is superior in alot of ways.

~Cheers!

I've got the same spec machine coming on Monday! What do you mean with the video being crapola? From what I had read, it was fine for video work, running a second screen (of up to 1900 x 1200 or somesuch), as they arent gpu dependant. So i'll hopefully be blitzing it with graphic design, video production, etc etc. All benchmarks and reviews show it to surpass the dual G5 tower... and most certainly the PC desktop i'm running now. Can't wait...

Btw, ordering this thing was a nightmare. I had 2 consultants tell me it would arrive 2-3 days following my order. So I order, and pay. Then, the net says 16 days delay. I kick up a huge stink, and fire off calls/emails to various consultants/reps. The calls were useless, but an email to sjobs@apple.com resulted in a PR woman calling me at home (twice) and organising one to be released.

I made the switch almost a year ago, and I agree. Switching to Mac's was great.

I know what you mean about that ordering delay, see I'm in canada for school right now and I had it ordered the DAY it was supposed to ship they delayed it like two weeks, I was NOT HAPPY!! Next term starts Tuesday so I was like great what now, I wanted the educational discount is why I wanted to buy it online.

But I'm originally from United States ( MT ) where we have no sales tax so I cancelled order from apple canada, drove to bellingham washinton and picked one up with 2gb ram installed and it was only $25 USD more than the one I ordered with 1 gb ram from apple store hehe :D:D:D so yeah it was like $1700 USD and was going to be 1675 USD after converted and taxes from canada online store.

Anyways, the video card is fine for graphics and stuff, DONT DO 3d or anything to do with it is what I meant, I tried playing the one game I play ( Warcraft 3 ) and it chugs awefully bad even with LOW-res andeverything turned to low.

but i still luv this thing
~cheers

Apple have never put good graphics cards in the iBook/MacBook, it's one of the reasons it's so cheap. It's not designed for gaming of heavy 3D and graphical work, it's designed to be a cheap(er) laptop for anyone to use for day-to-day stuff like listening to music, using the internet etc...

They do run very hot though, the old PowerBooks ran extremely hot, on my one you can actually burn your hand if you leave it on for long enough.

Congrats on the new toy tho :)

To my surprise, my new Macbook hasn't run hot AT ALL. A bit of warmth, but nothing bad at all. It's even remotely uncomfortable when I touch it.

Hey, if you're going to be a student in September, look into the programs "Schoolhouse" or "iProcrastinate". They seem good for keeping track of assignments and such.

SchoolHouse is more of a grade manager while iProcrastinate is more of a project planner/assignment planner.

Fast for photoshop, flash, dreamweaver, able to play all my games, able to be left on for a long time without blowing up ;) able to network easily with windows, so basically I need a mac cheaper with a better graphics card.

Check, check, why?, check (graphics card could be helpful -- macbook pro), check, check, you just want a MBP with an educational discount ;)
