Hi I was given a computer about 2 years ago with 1GB (4x256) rd ram however I ended up putting it aside due to not needing it.
I have never really known much about ram and the opinions I got about were very ranged.
Since they stopped making it I figured it must have been not too good, or just too expensive?
Was wondering if someone could help me out and enducate me abit on it.

Main reason im interested atm is because my pc motherboard is having a few probs and I cant be bothered spending much on new gear so it would be useful to swap to that motherboard with that RAM - would I have any probs with the mobo being so old?

Thanks alot:bounce:

If its an older board it could be that each port only supports 256mb sticks. Can't you just google the boards name and check?

Thanks for that should have checked wikipedia - didnt cross my mind!
So where does rambus stand against the memory of today?

Basically im stuck with the decision of paying out for a new mobo and memory or sticking with this mobo with the gb of rambus but im kinda unsure how stable it will be

Um, you can't just rip out a laptop (Wait is this a desktop?) motherboard... Sounds like they got bought out... And probably don't stack up well against the mainstream companies now

They are really expensive actually.. I found some to be like over $200 for just 512mb?

Realised im going to have a compatability issue with graphics card since the board only take 4x and my card is 8x >_<
Can anyone point me in the direction of a good motherboard and ram please?

I got an intel, it is really nice, as for prosessor, dual core intel is good, and athlon is better.

Just realised about PCI slots, I need about 5 I think but im kinda confused with what it says

1 PCI Express x16
1 PCI Express x16 ( x4 mode )
3 PCI Express x1
2 PCI

What are the other types of pci slot? Can I use normal pci cards with them?
