I was experimenting with a few methods of brightening photos in photoshop a few minutes ago and realised that all the easy ways normally end up looking terrible BUT I think I found a way of making photos look more cheerful :D Heres an example:

Brightened/cheered up:

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it look better?

Yeah, cheerful is definately not the word I'd use. I figured you'd take out the menacing clouds and such. How about I post what I would have done to make it 'cheerful', and everyone else does too? That would be interesting. Coming up soon. :D

Yeah but the task I was given was to only be able to use filters, opacity, and colour hues, no actual editing so that it can be made into an action and used on photos relatively quickly ;)

Well, I was going to add ducks and thin the forest, but since you wanted no major editing. :sure:

edit: Might do something a bit like this:

Obviously they're both very rough, I banged them out pretty quick. You picked quite the original to try to make 'cheerful' - as someone clearly went through some trouble to make it look menacing.

I didn't change the shadows caused by those giant menacing clouds, and the color is a bit off, but it only took about 5 minutes, which isn't too bad. :D

true, Your way is better for doing individual images but this is for batch photos to roughly cheer them up a tad quickly without having to tough anything other than one button 'play action'

Certainly, what I did obviously isn't possible for batch images. However, I can't think of the last time I got a batch of images and I said to myself, "You know, these are some gloomy images. I wish I had a cheerfulizer to apply to them!
I edited the post with another image. It's a little washed out, but it has the shadows roughly edited.

I didnt think that! Even though it does seem like something I would say, I was asked by a client who had a large quantity of images that were darkish and gloomy. And I didnt want to edit each one.

Sounds like they need a new photographer, not a photshop filter.:P
