Isn't the entire Final Fantasy just the same story with some slight spins?

FF7 is da best of the series, best story and best characters IMHO heck they've even made spinoff games and a spinoff movie if that aint the best FF then I don't know which one is.

I bet a remake of FF7 will break Halo2 most games sold record.

I havn't played FF8 but some people feel its better than 7, then again i don't know if they actually played more than the beginning of 7 :|

As for the remake i'm not sure if i'd buy it, it took me way too long to get my characters to the levels they are at...Unless i can somehow use my old save game, or there are added bonus features...more games at gold saucer, cinematics remade, the ability to get omislash(i love the way that attack sounds ), but level 5 version from AC. And of course the addition of clouds bike and fusion sword.

7 was an amazing game. At the time it came out the graphics were amazing also. I loved the story and all the characters. The battle system was great also.

I played 8 and didn't like it very much.

I've played through both, and loved both of them. But FF8 is still number 1 in my heart. Don't get me wrong, everything in FF7 blew me away, and it probably is the best in the series (with 3[6]being a close second!) But something about FF8 just connected with me more than FF7. I don't know, its weird.

But FF10? Blah. That was the worst in my opinion... Worse than FFX-2.

EDIT:

Both totally different games.

FFX-2 is the 'prequel' to FFX... But they totally messed up the battle system and everything.

All the Final Fantasy games are really good in my opinion. That includes the super early ones and Tactics. X and X-2 were kind of funky but I still dug it. I fully plan on repurchasing a PS2 just so I can get my Final Fantasy going on again once I move.

Never ever played a final fantasy game!

^ well then you really have a lot to contribute to this conversation :P

ffx had a fairly bland story in my opinion, not much to make it stand out. I still enjoyed it though. FF7 will always be the one that 'does' it for me. definitely NOT FF8.

but obviously everyone has their own opinions!

There all okay, IMO when I was really into consoles, yeah that's all I played. But I really honestly hate fantasy nowadays with the stupid plots and retarded things they do with it. *Cough*Way too many Fantasy MMOS*cough*

FFX-2 isn't the prequel to FFX.

I love how in every FF conversation, FF7 comes out as the best, FF8 as the worst, but never any mention of FF9. I personally loved 9 because of the whole throwback to the classic RPG-style. The graphics and story were excellent, characters weren't as memorable, but the game overall was still fun. FF7 is still up there for me and I don't think I need to list the reasons why. FF8 was good, but the whole character-to-scale thing wasn't so appealing at the time. The magic system was interesting and different, but also not that great. The music was good though.

FFX absolutely blew me away when I first played it. The cutscenes were amazing, graphics spoke for itself, the new battle system made things more tactical, and the game was huge. I put maybe 100 hrs total trying to get everything. The next best thing could possibly be FF12, who knows. There's not enough information yet.

Tactics was awesome too. I loved the strategy in that game.

My order of the ones I've played:

FFVII - Near-perfect, definitely my fave so far.
FFX - Great characters and gameplay, the story was a bit to romancey for me though.
FFXI - A few things I didn't like but the vast amount of side-missions made it enjoyable.
FFX-2 - Not really Final Fantasy, but still a fun game. Fighting (and beating) Trema was awesome.
FFVIII - Could never really get into this one. I didn't like how most of the locations were shut off at the end (I like going back and completing everything before the final boss).
FFVI - Playing this one now, it's alright but all very slow and drawn out. I find it hard to relate to sprites.

I think XII will be good but the one I'm really excited about is XIII, it'll be fantastic by the look of the screens so far.

Are there any in the FF series with real-time battles? The turn based stuff never appealed to me.

Hence why Ultima 8: Pagan, Mario 3, and Zelda on SNES take the cake in my books :D

Thoguh its not really final fantasy, Kingdom Hearts has real time.
I don't feel Dirge of Cerberus could be considered a final fantasy though either, especailly since its a shooter...

7 and 8, which you've probably played.

X-2 isnt great. Not a very flowing storyline. Seems like they released this to make money (similar to the FF7 story based shooter than just came out mentioned above.. u play as vincent.. and FF crystal chronicals.... ugh.. terrible game.)

Anyways, some things to look forward too: FFXII is coming out soon. I played the Demo for PS2. Weird battle system (more like MMORPG style), but I could probably get into it.

FF7 Remake -- this is just a rumor, and a while off, but they plan to remake FF7 with updated graphics for the ps3. I *hope* this happens, but I'll remain skeptical until i see it happen.

FFXII will have a realtime battle system.

My favourite is still 7, but 9 comes right after, then 8 :P FF10 seemed static to me, all you did was follow a linear line, with little to no possibility of exploration. Tak FF9 for example (or 8, or 7...) you have soo much available first hand. In FF10, you bloody have to nearly finish the game before you get control of the airship :-/

and yes, I am also wishing for a FFVII remake. :pleased:

VII is classic. I loved that game to pieces. At one point I must have sold my Chocobo Lure... by the time I realized it I was on the third disc and couldn't get it again. I nearly cried. Not really ;) But the point is that I couldn't get the last summon because I couldn't breed a water chocobo. Very sad for me.
