A few weeks ago, my parents asked me to create a website for their local business. Although my skills are limited, I gave it a shot. I would appreciate any helpful criticism, large or small, of its design and functionality.

http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/n/c/ncc5012/hartleys/hartleys.html

Here are a few issues of which I'm currently aware...
-orders will not submit successfully...the php page isn't online yet
-the real tour video isn't quite finished, so I'm just using a video game trailer for now
-the products section can be a little confusing, partially because of the way the company ships products
-the colors...I'm not crazy about the reds and yellows, but Hartley's is a very old-fashioned business - the potato chips are practically a tradition in our area, and for this reason they understandably didn't want to change their image at all

Thanks in advance for any responses.

i love it!
like the simplicity, overall layout, functionality, but my only problem is the yellow and the red are way too bright, makes it look newbish
try somethign lighter and it would just be perfect!
edit:// o just realized what u said about hte colors

I love it too!

Keep the colors, but make them just a TAD bit darker. Don't make them lighter, and don't reduce the saturation any.

When I went to the tour page, i was like, WFT mate?!\

The fonts could be a little bigger for readablility, especially in the section where you order boxes of chips.

Also, the ordering process is a little screwy. I picked a box and flavors on the first page, and then when I clicked "Begin Shopping" all my choices disappeared. Then I realized that this was because the first page was just a "sample" -- you need to make that more clear: i.e. make a heading for "Instructions" and then automatically animate the sample so that the user doesn't actually click on the buttons, but sees how it works. That might help.

p.s. you should add a nice friendly family picture on the "History" page. That would be very nice :)

Thanks a lot for the critiques so far thesparky007 and skiistari. I'm currently working on the demonstration for the products page...I think that will help clear up the confusion a lot. As for the colors, I think I could get away with making some slight changes in lightness...not enough that people would notice the difference, but enough to make them not so abrasive.

The only thing is...I have about a hundred movie clips in this project, and if I were to change the color just a little bit, the task of modifying practically every object in the fla would be quite painful. Additionally, I would probably have to tweak it once or twice to get it just right. I really doubt that this is possible, but does anyone know of any more efficient methods of making such a change...like a find and replace for colors? (not a chance, I'm sure) I've tried to adjust the tint, but that didn't work out as many different colored objects reside in the same symbol. Thanks again!

P.S. Any choppiness when you view the site? I think I've asked a similar question before with replies stating that no, it is not slow or choppy...however, on just about every computer I've viewed it on, the opening animation isn't nearly as fast or smooth as when I view it from my hard drive. It's set for 31 fps, so it should be quite snappy and fluent.

Maybe add a little bit more design and stuff to the home page but besides that I love the simplicity and usability of the site. It's so refreshing after these sites that you need ten college proffesors to just understand the navigation.
