Hi!

Im creating a wristband like the livestrong one.
My question is, how can I make the text go along the band and sort of carve in so it will be like the livestrong ones.
I can do the text and the object, but the rest is out of my knowledge!

-peace!

There are many ways to do this, but you could make a texture for the model, using a displacement map, or you could make your text in 3ds, use the extrude modifier on it, then use booleans on the model to have the text cut itself out. Pick the text as the second instance in the boolean options.

Use a bump map or render your texture to a normals map.

Okey.. thanks guys!:D
I'll check it out

EDIT:

I tried to use a bump map, but I struggle with the possitioning:-/
I get it inside of the band.. and it doesn't look at all like text:P

And it doesn't look like this in the work area:

It looks like this, without the preview of the text:

Here is my rendered version:

You can see the the lines inside of the band.. thats supposed to be the text. lol:P

There are literally dozens of different ways to map images to your model. Way too many to try explain but Max has a few mapping tutorials in the help section that you should take a look at. (If you downloaded the tutorial files that is)

I left the unwrap uvw modifier in the stack for you to look at. Highlight the modifier and click edit in its selections to view the map editor. You might need to temporarily drag a copy of the bump map in the material editor to your materials diffuse slot to see the image in the map editor.

All I did was map some of the faces to the image text and the rest to a black area of the image so no bump would appear there. Then I moved the map from the diffuse slot to the bump slot and adjusted the strength. Its actually alot harder to explain than it is to do so play around with the map editor and its tools and you'll figure it out.
