Ahoy ahoy,

-Site Here- (http://www.birkvideo.com/proof)

I made some small changes to a project I have been working on, and was hoping to get some fresh views and critiques (thx for those who posted on my prev. thread).

At the moment, I've limited things to a home-page (default opener), a services page (was only ever gonna be text ), a photo gallery and a contact page (which I finally got working :be:).

There will be a video gallery included but I'm just waiting on some content to be delivered. This will be distinct from the photo gallery, a change in navigation and the shell, as it were.

Unfortunately, I still have not designed an appropriate corporate logo (or should that really read identity?) but I'll probably do this once I get paid and discuss how much extra I'll charge for the add ons (sodding thing takes a long time - not just the gfx/coding for the site, but the conditions the photos may arrive in :( ).

Tommorow, I'll add a Whats New? menu, as its make sense for people wanting to see the fresh stuff only....

One of the significant changes that I made was the HTML index which does the flash detection (I remain loyal to flash publishers javascript version). I've only had the oppurtunity to test the html side of things on FF and IE, so I'm not entirely sure how other browsers react (old ones can be redirected to my sock drawer). Note the dodgy IE rendered text in the index html, which although renders at the bottom (-2%) of the page, decided it did not want to center itself. IE can go *love* itself. Just checked Opera - and it renders fine!

Anyways, critiques and views are all welcome and taken onboard.

Cheers peeps. :egg:

For starters, when viewing the gallery and I mouse over the buttons, the text is unreadable. I'm guessing you're using a pixel font I (and certainly others) won't have. If this is the case, somewhere off the stage type in some text using this same font and make it static text, this way the font will always be displayed properly.

Secondly, I'm not sure I see why this needs to be in a popup, let alone a fullscreen popup. I'd integrate it into the page and eliminate the splash all together ... I don't know anyone who would change their screen resolution to the recommended viewing for a single site.

Nice job, very clean :thumb2:

It's pretty neat, not too crazy about the colour that bleeched orangey is not working for me. I like the nav buttons and the site has a nice feel to it. However it always bothers me when you go to the first page and it says enter site and the site is a pop up, it would be better if it took you to the home page in the same window.

EDIT: sorry I posted basically the same thing about the pop up.

The issue of the pop-up is something I'm not too crazy about, tbh. However, the reason I put it up there was on 1024x768 screens, you would end up with the menu buttons dissapearing with only the tip of them showing. By using this popup method, I'd stand a chance of making them visible regardless. I'll look into making it an option, whether to load it within the same window or trigger a popup...

Point taken on the font. I'll clear that up before I make this site live.

Please, please, please, please, please, please don't make it open in a fullscreen popup. Whenever I browse to sites and they open up a fullscreen'er, it's an automatic close for me. I run 1600x1200, I don't know of any site that requires that much real estate ;) An option, as you said, would be nice.

It's at the bottom.

Incidentally, are you using screen res 1024 and entering window mode?

^ Yup I did that, clicked aimlessly for 30s and then closed.

I refuse to open anything full screen. My screen is MY property - design your website to fit into the space I give you, namely inside the program I open it in. If you can't do that I'm not interested in your site, everyone else manages it.

Sorry if that sounds really harsh, but thats exactly my reaction on opening sites like that :)

Have a nice day.:D

Your reaction is reasonable. It gives me pause for thought, perhaps redesigning a more simpler [smaller] menu, to do the same job. :elderly:
