I designed a template and sliced it all up. I selected 'Save for Web' and selected JPEG format. Once I hit save, a dialog box opens up asking where to save the html files and images. Now even after having JPEG format chosen, the dialog box shows only PNG format.......Why!?

its based on the previous saved format from what i can gather, dont pay attention to it, it sometimes could say .gif or .jpg, as long as you select the format for your slices and save out to html and images it will work fine. Its basically like a description of what it means by images.

I HAVE to pay attention to it. Coz as of now, this thing is exporting my complete template into .png format which prevents me from running it on a browser. JPG or GIF would be fine......but PNG!? AAArrrrr.......

Well, this isnt' the first time this is happening. I've encountered this problem several times ago with other files. Not to mention on different PCs as well! I tried restarting PS and even the PC, no luck.....:*(
Left out to mention, once I export 10 slices in one shot, 9 are PNG and 1 of them is JPG!!!!!!

Hmm. Would color mode make a difference? Try changing it to RGB.

well it could be a few things,
1: you have not allocated your slices compression settings (select a slice then adjusting the compression)
2: your slices have gaps giving you extra slices and when you export 'all slices' it gives you un-adjusted extra images. (one way to see this is odd numbering with your slices, eg.. one slice is 5 then the next obvious one is 7.
3: Your using save 'all slices' when you have slices that are not user slices.
4: the photoshop preference/user settngs might be corupt, when starting photoshop hold down ctl atl shift to be prompted to reset your preferences file. (#warning any adjustment/custom settings will be reset from your preference settings)

The solution:
- In the Save for Web dialog, choose the 'Select Slices' tool
- select ALL the slices.
- THEN change the settings to JPEG
You've only been changing the settings for ONE slice atm.

nizamm have you tried to save it out? what result do you get? even if the images (example name) is png you should get the format you have selected for the slice, like i said before it dosent matter what is there is just a reference to any un-adjusted slices will become png, just as long as you select the slices you want, pick your compression and save out selected slices you will be fine.

Well, as the screenshot shows, I save it as jpeg, it exports .png, inserts even the .png links into the .html file along with just ONE slice as .jpg format.........
Can anyone believe that?
Ultimately what I ended up doing was, I opened each slice directly in PS again and exported them as .jpg 1 by 1.........and then had to manually change the extensions in the .html file.....Aaarrrrr....

It just dosent sound right, I've had the exact same situation where the extention in the save prompt shows a completely different format than from what ive selected yet when i exported my selected slices (that i chose the compression setting too) it saved out the way i wanted, there is something up with your save for web settings, i think you should reset your preference file for photoshop, also you could try to export the slices and html in image ready to see if you still get that mystery png issue, lol :smirk:
:also have you tried creating a new document, slicing it and testing to see if you get the same issue? if you do, can you mock it up, then zip it and either post it/ upload it or put it on yousendit.com so i can check it out for you.
